Adam Wharton 08:09 - Jun 21 with 5397 views | IPSWICHFANITFC | He would solve most of Southgate's problems. He has to start in a midfield 3 with Rice and Bellingham. That midfield 3 has so much balance and quality to it as well - all 3 are Champions League quality. Trent to right back. Gordon in for Foden. Sacrifice the players who don't fit into the balance of the side otherwise Southgate's problems won't go away with the unbalanced side at the moment.

Adam Wharton on 09:20 - Jun 21 by BloomBlue | True but finding a natural defence midfielder who is happy to sit in front of the defence isn't always easy. Look at France, they're still using Kante in that role even though they've had a few years to find his replacement. |
Who is the best in the world at what he does? Hardly hampering them.

Gallagher has played that roll for the majority of his time at Chelsea. A midfield 3 of Rice-Bellingham-Gallagher would give the back 4 more protection (which they will need the further we go) and allow defence, midfield and attack to link up. Saka-Kane-Gordon up top with Bellingham pushing forward when we have the ball. If Shaw is fit for the knockouts, then he comes in for Trippier, solving the left side problem. With Palmer, Foden, Bowen, Wharton, Watkins, TrentAA, Toney and Mainoo as quality options from the bench, I still think we are in a good position to win the thing.

Adam Wharton on 09:58 - Jun 21 by Vaughan8 | Personally I don't think we need 2 "holding" CMs (though was Trent acting like a holding midfielder anyway). The obvious switch is just to bring in a left winger for Trent, move bellingham back and Foden as number 10. Having said that, unl;ess you change the mentality/tactics, its always going to be like it is. |
Foden off the bench with 30 to go will frighten the bejesus out of most defenders. We don't need to start with our best 11 players, we need to start with our best team. Foden and Bellingham I think will just get in each others way, much like Gerrard and Lampard. Start one and bring the other on when the defence might be a bit knackered. If Shaw is fit for the knockouts I would go with Pickford Walker-Stones-Guehi-Shaw Rice-Bellingham-Gallagher Saka-Kane-Gordon More stable when without the ball, still plenty of threat with it. Our bench will be loaded with quality if anyone is having an off day. Be more solid than open, we will need to be this in the later stages. It isn't about the performance, but results in the knockouts. Lets all get back behind the team and bring it home.

Adam Wharton on 09:29 - Jun 21 by _clive_baker_ | I'm convinced the majority of fans would be onboard with this, but I can't see it from Southgate. Personally I would change all 6 for the next game, go with something like: Wharton Gallagher Bowen Palmer Gordon Watkins Bring in some fresh legs and a few with a point to prove. A little rest and a kick up the ass to a few of the others. Then for the knockouts I would do as you suggest: Rice Bellingham Saka Foden Gordon Kane |
That is possibly the wort effing idea I've seen around an England team. You want to sub out 6 players in a team that is struggling for cohesion. Then bring most of them straight back in? What exactly is the benefit of that? A "kick up the arsr" absolute madness.

He's not a 10, he's the ultimate utility player. And has the ability to be the best player on the pitch in most positions.
Adam Wharton on 12:04 - Jun 22 with 730 views | ElephantintheRoom | France have a superior team to England in virtually every position - and so far all they have to show for their endeavours are an own goal and a broken nose. Yet the coverage over here is largely positive with nobody queuing up to slaughter the manager when other teams raise their games against one of the favourites. IF Kane’s header and Foden’s shot had gone in instead of hitting the woodwork I suspect much of the current hysteria would be suppressed despite the uninspired performances. Only Germany and Spain have played up to expectations so far amongst the favourites

Adam Wharton on 14:19 - Jun 22 with 688 views | Vegtablue | Why has he been trying to shoehorn Trent into CM, as though it isn't a technically demanding position to play? Bizarre! As someone who's wanted Gareth out for many years (nice as bloke as he is), my guess was still that I'm out of touch and he must be playing there for Liverpool regularly now. Don't think personnel changes can solve the underlying issue that the team's been trained to a low level tactically, but I definitely agree on Gordon receiving more minutes. Not seen Wharton enough to comment, but him, Mainoo or Gallagher, they must all be better options as actual CMs. Or if Bellingham and Foden / Palmer are to share a pitch together, play Jude deeper alongside Rice and let either occupy the space in front, with Gordon on the left. Yep it's such an easy decision, I used to like GS but I've no idea what his thinking is at the moment, Jude alongside Rice is just a no brainer, which allows Foden/ Palmer to play the ten...Jude has the physicality to make runs too and the brain to know when so that's another reason for this, Eze for me on the left, Saka right, Kane up top and STAY there...now we just need to get up the pitch..
