Healthy eating… 19:56 - Jun 25 with 12135 viewsSitfcB

Anyone got any tips?

Sort of started yesterday and already fed up l, haven’t had bread, a chocolate bar or packet of crisps for two days

Trying to stay off all of the above plus sweet and savoury pastries, sweets and full fat drinks etc.

Trying to make small changes and better options… a bowl of cereal in the morning instead of a Greggs! A couple of boiled eggs instead of a pasty mid morning and some fruit in the afternoon instead of a packet of crisps.

Anyone have any good substitutes or healthy food stuff that are actually tasty?

You might want to follow the Greek yoghurt advice a few have given n the thread so far but I hardly ever buy yoghurt now that I have discovered kefir, never have it for breakfast though as I more more likely to have a hundred or so millilitres / grammes an hour or so before bedtime. Calms the gut a treat.

Yeo Valley and Biotiful both do varieties you can find in bigger supermarkets but I think the most affordable and least mucked around with are the Polish ones that you can find in the 'continental' food sections and it is one thing the Co-op are not so bad in stocking.

I have seen this said before but I've never taken the plunge. What is the taste like? Is it similar to Greek Yoghurt? It took me a while for my taste buds to adjust to the taste of greek yoghurt, moving from my high sugar base I found it incredibly sour. Now I love it!!

Amazing how the body adjusts to changes over time.

I cannot say the taste is a big factor for me, it is quite bland and maybe slightly sour. The big advantage is how good it feels for the gut. I once had a case of hiccups so severe that i was hospitalised, believe it or not. A few years later I felt the symptoms coming on again, by now I had the kefir habit and swigged back half of a Biotiful bottle, almost immediately the disturbance was calmed. Which was handy as I was a hundred miles from home where the medication that sorted me the previous time was.

Probably been said already, but it's quite simple (in theory). Try and only eat stuff you prepare from scratch. And that doesn't include preparing yourself a sarnie with Laughing Cow and Sunblest, tsk.

You don't need to avoid bread per se, but start making it yourself. It's easy and can be done around a few hours at home. It freezes, obviously.

Try and eat less meat. It's good for you but ideally you should get most of your calories from veg and pulses and that. There's an old saying, it's not what you eat it's what you don't eat. Meat is a treat, so treat it as such and buy good quality shizzle less often.

Don't obsess with the latest fad or advice around "superfoods", even if it's not bollix. Fermeneted foods e.g. are of course good for your gut (and a good gut is essential to good overal health) but a lot of the foods that would usually have been full of good bacteria back in the day are processed and pasteurised and not worth sh1t. The tap water, soil, medicines, whatever, are full of things that kill the good sh1t anyway and you ain't gonna live the good life or offgrid so quit worrying about it.

Worry will kill you quicker than a sh1t diet.

When you eat processed food (and I do, as do most), and especially when it is something you think is "healthy", see how many ingredients it contains that are things no one eats as things on their own. It's a good litmus test.

Try to have at least 12 hours with no grub, 14 better but it's not an exact science. On that note, never get down about troughing that late night kebab, chased down with a massive bag of salt soaked chips that was totally unnecessary. It doesn't matter as long as you are physically active and don't eat that sh1t it all the time.

Happy troughing.
