Considering they are over €600 million in debt, I’m surprised that Barca are still operating as a club, yet alone able to somehow fund transfers.

We really wanted him last summer when he joined Hull but I was reliably informed it was one we couldn't stretch to at the time, and Hull ended up paying c. £5m. Wouldn't surprise me at all if we're still keen as we do tend to go back in for these players we've previously courted, especially given how good he looked last season.

According to journalist Romano on his ‘Here We Go’ podcast, via GiveMeSport, he has said: “There is also interest from several Premier League clubs, especially from West Ham and Ipswich Town. These two clubs have already reached out to the player’s side to understand the conditions of the deal in this case.

“Remember that the player, in the future, will have a possibility to return to Aston Villa. Villa have a matching clause into the contract of Philogene, so they have the possibility in the future to bring the player back.”

One wonders if we're turning our attentions to Philogene in case Omari goes elsewhere?

Or to make Chelsea aware we might go in for him instead of spending 30m on Omari. I'm not sure if they need to sell him still for ffp, but if they do, it needs to be done in the next couple of days.

Weren't we after him around the same time as Hutchinson? Although I think the Hutchinson loan was done well before Philogene moved to Hull.

Philogene plays largely on the left. Omari on the right or in the 10.

Some rumoured team we are putting together.

Ioannidis
Philogene Hutchison Burns
Morsy Sheaf
Davis Rodon Greaves Johnson
Rushworth

That is the sort of side you could see McKenna keeping up relatively safely whilst all the £10m - £20m signings ended up being worth at least double that in the space of a season.

McKenna's dream identity. Pace and technique aplenty up top alongside work rate. Two midfielders that can do everything in the middle. Davis flying forward. Some solid ball playing defenders at the back.

Hard not to be excited by these links as you can see exactly what we are doing, just a much higher quality version of what we've already done with lots of ways to get results and a very fun exciting side to watch.

That's about a £90m - £100m outlay potentially to get those 8 and mix them in with 17 of the squad from last season.

Ticks all the boxes. If we went down we'd raise the necessary just from a few player sales. Lots of young players with room to improve that already look like lower Premier League players.

Keep most of the squad together but ease in 7-8 new signings like we have done previously (over the two windows).

Of course we'll face huge competition for every player we go for and not all of them will be sold the dream. But I'd imagine we have a #2, #3 and #4 choice for every position all of similar profiles.

Agreed.

Very similar (imo) to Broadhead, probably not a lot between them really, but he's a little more shrewd at winning fouls and doing the defensive work.

Liked him a lot the few times I saw him.

Won't be instead' of Omari, would be instead of getting Sarmiento back.

From what I gather, Whittaker is our contingency there. Philogene was one we were interested in last summer, so would be little surprise if we're in for him again.

Philip, did you ever find out if we did indeed have the option to loan sarmiento automatically due to promotion?

Doesn’t the right to buy back clause expire when a player is sold on?

Think we have should we want to trigger it, don't recall any party dismissing it. Personally, despite playing such a big role in promotion, I'm not sure we'd want to do that. Think there will be better alternatives.

He's looking electric in Copa America - think he'd be such a good signing here. Presume no chance of a perm?

If we somehow end up with Philogene and Hutchinson in our squad next season, it will have been a remarkable transfer window and a massive statement that we’re not just there to make up the numbers.

I've not watched any of that, if he's doing well there then perhaps he might be looked at again, or by Brighton, of course. Looking at his performances here, I thought he tended to do very well off the bench but less so as a starter and I think we'd want more than that, particularly moving up a division.
