Am I naive and stupid to not mind if taxes do go up a bit? 22:14 - Jun 26 with 11337 viewsMelford

If you are paying a few quid more every month but things do actually improve a bit in terms of stuff like, NHS, housing, social care etc. then I think It's a fair trade-off.

I would raise taxes and NI. I would also:

Huge bump pay for all workers in the public sector to improve efficiency in those departments and get the best talent and brightest minds they can. Across the board - Councils, HMRC, NHS, Police, CPS, social services, the full shabang.

However, I would also remove needless red tape that prevents decision making but then increase accountability on the individuals (and hopefully reduce wastage and middle manager bs with it) so that the above entities can improve and grow.

Nationalise all transport, utility providers and invest billions into infrastructure and systems that actually help people.

Completely overhaul the benefits system. The money people on UC get is inhumane.

Overhaul the tax system. Asset owners are charged yearly taxation based on value. Levies also charged to large property funds (UK and foreign) which hold commercial assets alongside a complete overhaul on business rates.

Permission to flog any politician that's involved in any form of scandal - trial has to be done in public and decided by the public.

Unfortunately as none of that will happen, I won't vote for anyone. All dicks really

I am happy to fork put a bit more if aia knew it was being spent efficiently, but I sincerely doubt it would be, whether red orange or blue hued government. I have no faith in anybody in high office and little trust in the civil service departments, NHS, councils etc allocating it or spending it,.

Yep, happily pay a bit more to make things work better…

But I don’t want my taxes to go up to pay for things or people to have a free life. If that’s me a bad person, then so be it.

No one is a bad person who thinks people should have a free life. Yes, those that are genuinely in need of society to look after them then they should be helped. Unfortunately the latest buzz word is mental health, it used to be back problems. I am not saying we don't have people with these issues, but 6.5 million ? I have seen during my lifetime many instances of people I know very well being or having as much or more disposable income and a larger family than myself when they don't do a days work and I am working (Not now) a 72 hour week. To me that means there's a large imbalance. This can also be said about the rich. I am in no way saying hard working people shouldn't have money. Of course they should. But the vast sums of money liberally thrown about by those in boardrooms up and down the country is way out of kilter with the rest of society.
