Nonsense disallowed goal for me as well. He's offside in the build up but not interfering with play at that stage, when the ball is played to him he's well onside. Game's gone.

Well and truly gone. Sick of ‘some’ incidents being reviewed to death but not others. Use tech for “did the ball cross the line” decisions and leave everything else to the on-field officials.

This. There was nowhere near this level of controversy attached to every single game back when we let referees just do their job. Whatever impact this was supposed to have on stopping games being remembered solely for their officiating it’s had the complete opposite. I’m disappointed in Ipswich that we’re now one of the clubs endorsing this farce.

Like the penalty, technically right but stupid to be ruling goals out for someone being in a position where being a toenail offside gives them no advantage.

They showed that image after I'd posted. His big toe is a millimetre offside on that image. As you say, technically correct but doesn't quite sit right.

Offside is offside, there is no subjectivity to the rule. Bring in a rule that someone can't be offside as they are just a little offside, and they aren't gaining an advantage would open the can of worms of subjectivity. But with that said, if tight calls like these goals are ruled out, you want to be bloody sure the tech is making the right calls. I'm not sure if this is still the case, but when Hawkeye was first used in tennis to adjudicate line calls, it had a margin of error of an inch or so. Pretty useless on tight calls. If there is a margin of error that's within the tight calls in the tech, then on field decisions must stand IMO. But getting the companies installing the tech to admit there is a margin of error is another thing. [Post edited 30 Jun 2024 0:36]
