Leif had a lot of ground to cover, was absolutely superb first half, some mighty tackles, tracking back and winning the ball, getting crosses in. Thought him hutch and greaves really stood out first half. Such a shame we couldn’t capitalise first half, but what a team performance. [Post edited 17 Aug 2024 17:15]

Absolutely not picking bones. Thought he was ok, but really struggled in the second half against Salah, understandably. So was just wondering what the OP saw from that performance to say he was EPL ready

In that case the OP could have named every player in the line up but they didn't - they named four as looking as ready made Premier players. In response, people might question the choices. | |

Thought today summed up my feelings on Leif Davis in general. He is without a doubt good enough for this league going forward and with many facets of his game and anyone who thinks he doesn't have many great attributes to thrive in this league like some of the people around me today who were slagging him off from the moment the first goal went in really need to give their head a wobble.
But also those who say he can't do a thing wrong and had a good game need to also take off the blue tinted glasses. As a defender he still has some work to do and that is something that neutrals I've watched games with over the last year or so have often said to me as well, that if he can improve the defensive side of his game, he could well go on to play at the very highest level but if he doesn't he will get caught out in the Premier League.
However also you have to bear in mind the way the team play and he is often left exposed because of that. It may well be as the season goes on we have to adjust our shape and maybe push him up a little bit less to counter the fact that Davis is better going forward than he is defensively. I felt he should have done better for both goals today, but I also can accept that the way we play put him in those situations, so it's not altogether his fault.
We will need to see how the season develops from here and if we see a lot of similar goals being scored down his side from the balls in behind against more than just the bigger sides, we need to look at nullifying that thread and that may mean that Leif simply needs to temper his runs forward a bit to stop us being exposed.
As such Leif for me id a ready made EPL player going forward, but there are still questions to be asked defensively. Too early to give the decision on that for me. We need to wait and see how he gets on against your run of the mill Premier League sides and not some of the best sides in Europe. [Post edited 17 Aug 2024 18:53]

It's not going to be popular but he got found out for the 2 goals and some more.
Great going forward, but sometimes leaves himself open when defending.
It'll be interesting to see how he is against the lower teams. Clearly Salah is one of the best in the world so it is hard to evaluate him today. | | | |
