New press box 16:54 - Aug 17 with 2196 views | Zx1988 | My only real gripe from today - the positioning of the new press box is abysmal. I get that it's probably the only place it could have gone, what with the poor sight-lines at the back of the stand, but it doesn't half get in the way. I sit a few rows back/across and can't see any of the Pioneer/North corner unless I stand, but those alongside it must have one hell of a restricted view now.

Unfortunately the press insisted on the best views and the media/money comes before fans in the Premier League. That isn't a critism of ITFC as I know they had to do this.

Sorry, are you criticising journalists for typing up match reports(the thing they are there to do?) rather than watching the match for every single second?

Hi, journalist here. This is our job, to be in a place looking at it and simultaneously be writing about it. I, for one, am happy the world's press want to write about us again. [Post edited 18 Aug 2024 6:40]

Not at all, it's just sad for the fans who had to lose the seats they sat in for many years and for those who now have a restricted view. I think about six rows have been lost in six blocks, some of the best views in the stadium.
New press box on 19:56 - Aug 17 with 1520 views | Churchman | I think when you are trying to convert an old stadium to 2024 requirements, compromises will inevitably have to be made and that’s what we’ve seen. I was looking up at the little platforms that have been welded on the front of West Stand upper for example along with what I could see of other ground changes. The only proper solution is replacement or a complete redevelopment starting with The Chicken Run /East Stand. On the upside, I thought that the stadium looked cared for and smart today with its news signs and paint. What a contrast to 4 years ago. I particularly pleased to see the crowd at over 30k - they’ve clearly tried to squeeze more people in where they can.

I agree - there's clearly no other way. Hopefully it will only be a temporary situation, and a new Cobbold stand can be built to incorporate a dedicated press area, which will allow the Pioneer to be converted back to normal seating.

Yes, the club have done an amazing job and the crowd size of over 30,000 was lovely to see. The media requirements in 2024 are so much more than 2002, a time long before Twitter and iPhones. [Post edited 17 Aug 2024 20:09]

The TNT people (Crouch, Cole and I think Lynsey Hipgrave) were doing the pre-match, HT and post just in front of me and there were a multitude of cameras, lights you name it. Around the ground cameras and all sorts of things. It feels so different to 2002, but maybe that’s my rubbish memory and top level football deprivation. 30k crowd? I thought back to the late Evans years where crowds went down to the teens and the Duncan/first half of Lyall days the crowds were under 10k. The last three seasons revival have been amazing and somehow the reality of seeing the players of Ipswich and Liverpool walk out in that packed stadium really brought it home to me. I figuratively shed a tear.
