Chaplin 09:29 - Aug 18 with 1437 views | bsw72 | This is possibly a little controversial but I wonder whether out of all the players who have been major contributors in the McKenna era, Chaplin may be the one who struggles to adapt to the demands of the PL. I think his approach and positional play got "found out" in the latter half of last season, and teams got wise to him, filled the hole he used to drop into behind the front line and as a result became a less effective player. He got 9 goals and 7 assists up to the end of January last season, and this dropped to 4 goals and 2 assists after that. He doesn't seem to be able to find or create the space he needs, which is something that Morsey does brilliantly, and lacks the pace or turn of speed of the likes of Burns / Hutchinson. I can see Chaplin dropping to the bench and Szmodic starting before the end of August, and possibly longer term Luongo making way for Phillips or Cajuste (should he sign). I certainly do not hope or want these players to fail as they have been a huge part of the team regeneration, but more of a feel that they have reached the ceiling of their abilities, and that while we as fans have our favourites, we also have the accept that not all of the squad will adjust to the standards of the Premier League.

Important to remember that wasn’t just any PL side we played and players with much bigger reputations will similarly struggle against them.

Chaplin on 09:33 - Aug 18 with 1342 views | MK1 | I think Chaplin will be the one who drops out once we have everybody fit and signed. Absolutely love the bloke and he has been truly amazing in a Town shirt and will continue to be so, just maybe more often from the bench than starts.

The only thing I would say about Chaplin is, as stated in the OP, this issue was apparent in the final few months of the Championship season rather than just yesterday.

Chaplin on 10:19 - Aug 18 with 983 views | Steve_M | It’s not really controversial, he struggled with the physicality against the better sides last season but still found a way to get into the Championship. It’s not really surprising if the same applies to a greater extent this season. He’ll play a part this season but he won’t be an automatic started I don’t think.
