Today’s Daily Hate match report 09:18 - Aug 19 with 1906 viewsBlueNomad

Stayed overnight at relatives and just looked at that rag which they have delivered. Thought I’d look, with surgical gloves on, to read about our game in the knowledge that it would be prominent in the sports pages. The match did indeed take up most of a page. It said we were fearless and……, That was it. The rest was all about Liverpool, Slot and what Robertson had to say about him.

We are just in the PL to provide cannon fodder to the Big 6 in the eyes of the press.

I don't think it's worth being too prissy about this. We have taken the express elevator from League One to the Premier League. Most of the media know little about us as The Prem is the be-all and end-all of their football knowledge and interest. I'm pretty sure we'd feel the same about Portsmouth, Derby or Oxford if they managed to copy our success.

There's no doubt this season will be tough for us, you can't expect to rise through 2 leagues and then for us to be comfortable our first season surrounded by a good portion of the best players in the world. We have a great team behind us and I'm confident they are getting most of the big decisions correct but we won't know that for sure until the end of the season and we will also need lady luck to be on our side too.

I am confident we will survive due to the structure of the club but we need to be realistic, we are not the only well-run club in this league, there are a lot fewer basketcase clubs with us now than in the last 2 years. These teams also have a good head start on us along with the fact that the other 2 teams we were promoted with had much larger coffers and squad depth than we did after bouncing straight back to the top table.

It's not that much of a shock the media see us as doomed to failure taking all that into account. Hopefully, we can win them over as the season progresses.

Liked the excuse for reading it! Same as the 'gave it a good go' comment from Danny Murphy.

It will change if/when we make our stamp on the league

At the moment. We are favourites to go down. Get heavily beaten in the opening games and it's all about Ed and mckenna not really about ipswich. But that's normal.

As soon as we get our first win and a few more under our belts we will start being given more respect. Its just natural.

For Saturday just gone. For Town fans we could see how we did and we know the back story to those who played that game and how many new signings weren't actually in it. It's actually quite funny how this has been ignored by the press in most reports.

a niche perspective

The first paragraph is a load of bunk and pundits, writers etc not knowing about us is a cop out.

It's their job! If you don't have a passion for football then do not bother. I love football but I detest these clowns speaking about any club with zero research done and getting paid handsomely for it.

There are some good writers/pundits out there (particularly on the radio) but also the likes the guardian gents, The Athletic and Henry Winter who knew his stuff on TT but clowns like Jenas scrap a living because they had played for Spurs a couple of times. Don't get me started on those shock jocks on Talksport..

Even Sutton is a troll but at least he knows what he is talking about.

It's not just our club, I am sure Brentford and the other 14 will be annoyed. Guess it's something we need to get used to.

The trouble is these media outlets are more interested in what brings in the most money. That is mainly clickbait-style headlines rather than true in-depth analysis and journalism.

You are 100% correct and raise a very good point about the state of the media, it would be much better reading if these journalists knew what they were actually writing about but it's not the case as most journalism is lazy so unfortunately, my point stands. This is the only angle the media will push until we're able to change the narrative by getting results they are not expecting.

Being the unknown underdogs did us no harm last season either!

Uppa towen!

To balance it, The Guardian is going full in with us. Their “10 talking points from the opening weekend’s action” thing doesn’t even mention Liverpool:

I wouldn't worry too much, as long as you had a shower and thoroughly disinfected yourself after reading. The latex gloves were a good plan.
