Speed of pass, and movement off the ball 07:31 - Aug 29 with 1245 views | Dubtractor | Aside from the obvious issue of defending set pieces, they were they main issues for us last night. We know from our experience in league one how tough it can be to break down a low block, but we managed it in league one by developing an almost telepathic understanding across the pitch. Everyone knew who would be making what run, what first time pass would therefore work, and therefore unlocking teams before they got fully set in the block. That was unsurprisingly missing last night, and it might be a few weeks before we fully have those understandings developed with the new players. It was all just a bit laboured last night, reminiscent of McKenna's first half season, but we really all should know by now that things will click into place. Just need to show a little bit of patience, which I know isn't always easy to come by from football fans.

Will be far more open and far more space. I don't really see last night of being indicative of a lot really. We need to defend set pieces better though.

I hope we start on Saturday with a core of players who were with us last season or joined early in the window, and then use the international break as a "mini pre-season" to improve the integration of the more recent arrivals.

And that passing all the way across from one side of the opponents penalty box to the other and back again that all premier teams seem to do.....I hope we're not adopting that "tactic" ourselves? KMcC has his work cut out.
