Hirst 13:16 - Aug 30 with 1458 views | Bluebert | How far away from fitness is he? Worth waiting for him rather than spending millions on a desperate last minute signing? We could obviously do with one more anyway but feel like we have goals in the squad and he can do a job for us in the prem.

That was on my mind as well, I guess we’ve got to trust in what McKennas doing though.Just get the feeling that Broja is not the one for us. I’ll be very happy if someone brings this post back after he’s just banged in his 20th of the season to secure our top 4 finish!
Hirst on 13:56 - Aug 30 with 1214 views | Churchman | I think so. Far better that than to commit to another sick note who might be fit one day and may even do a bit better than stink the place out at Fulham as he did last season. Desperation signings rarely work. Better to target bringing somebody in in January. That worked with Moore last season.

Not sure you can call it a desperation signing as we've been after him for a while. The concern is that he's not ready for his first match but he'll be able to integrate, and learn our systems too. It won't be a total loss. He wouldn't necessarily play in his first match even if fit.

But surely we’re not considering spending north of £20m on someone as a 6 week stop gap! If, and it’s a big if, we bring in Borja then surely he the the direct competition with Hirst, just like Ogbene and Burns, Johnson and Clarke, Loungo and Cejuste, and Mosey and Philips. We actually need another #9 regardless of the fitness of Hirst.

I think it depends what the circumstances are around that signing. In other words, if Chelsea mug us off for a one legged forward and after rejecting it entertain it on the last day of the window that’s a desperate signing. But since we (I) don’t know the circumstances, it’s all idle speculation as a fellow poster has just pointed out.

That last sentence is absolutely bonkers when you think about it. We were willing to commit to potentially buying a player for £30m who might not even be in our starting 11 once everybody is fit. Madness
