10 game milestone approaches. Can we hit 10 points? Do we use ‘MUST win’? 10:52 - Oct 10 with 4670 views | unstableblue | We’re seven games in, with 4 points, from 4 draws and 3 losses. Scored 6, 1 from Szmodics and Morsy, and positively 4 from Delap. We’ve conceded 14, -8 Goal Difference (Saints and Everton worse having shipped 15, Wolves 21). Positively we are still out of the bottom 3, sitting just above Palace, Saints and Wolves. And in the Brighton, Villa and Fulham games we’ve seen real promise. As McKenna says we will improve, and have probably the most players to bed in and gel compared to our rivals. But a win has eluded us and we approach the 10 game mark on 0.57 PPG not the holy grail of 1PPG needed over the season (yes I know you might need less, but that has to be the minimum target). Getting to 10 points after 10 games would be very positive, given the teams we’ve played. But is obviously not essential for survival given recent history. Bournemouth were only on 6 after 10 last season. But of note the bottom 3 after 10 were Luton, Burnley and Blades on 5, 4 and 1. And that’s how it stayed. The season before Villa were only on 9 after 10! But the eventually relegated teams Leeds, Southampton and Leicester were on 9, 7 and 4 respectively. So hitting 10 after 10 is not essential, but would be a good marker and historically a positive position. The 3 matches to take us to ten are: Sat 19 Oct 3pm Portman Road - Everton Sat 26 Oct 3pm Gtech Stadium - Brentford Sat 2 Nov 3 pm Portman Road - Leicester Can we get to 6 points and take ourselves to 10 after 10, and I’d suggest to be outside the bottom 3. I don’t think so. I think 4 or 5 is more likely, a draw and CRUCIALLY a win. Phil/TWTD asked the question on X - “How important has the Everton game become? Can you talk about must-win matches at this stage?” I think the Everton game is important from a performance and not losing perspective - Ipswich were poor at West Ham and need to bounce back, with player performances that were strewn with errors and below the level necessary. Phillips and Johnson WERE the worst actors and given they were brought in for Premiership experience deserve criticism, but criticism that is balanced. Everton have drawn, won and drawn and have some good players and an experienced manager. I don’t think it a MUST win. But I would say, Town MUST win in these next three games. And taking 4 points from Saints and Leicester our promotion peers is also a key to survival (3 at home and 1 away) - So Leicester at home becomes important. The Portman Road atmosphere will play a factor. But going into then Spurs away, Man U at home, international break with only say 4, 5, 6 points after 10 games, with the teams played at home - I think there would be room for concern. But we have Kieran McKenna and I’m expecting a response after the London Stadium. What do you think?? How many points after 10? A must win from the next 3? [Post edited 10 Oct 2024 11:24]

10 game milestone approaches. Can we hit 10 points? Do we use ‘MUST win’? on 11:22 - Oct 10 by Dubtractor | I agree that whilst the next game isn't necessarily a must win, we absolutely must have a win on the board within the next 3. |
Tend to agree. Not ‘must win’ in the sense of points needed, but if we don’t get a win soon confidence will start to drop and performances decline as pressure mounts. The players are only human and if we don’t get a win soon they are bound to start wondering if they are good enough as individuals and as a team to do this. I’m confident that we’ll get a win soon - every team does eventually. But it’s proving harder than we thought and while I had hoped/expected us to be somewhere above 17th Come the end of the season, as things are at the moment It’s beginning to look like survival really is the aim of the game this season.

Do we use ‘MUST win’? on 14:08 - Oct 13 with 214 views | ClareBlue | Yes, all about survival first season. 100m is the base level to try and stay in the league then you use the 100m each year to buy two or three players to improve incrementally. 3 years you are established because you are improving the squad not trying to create a Premiership squad. So if it's about surviving then these games are more important than Liverpool or Arsenal because points for Leicester and Everton mean we have to match that somewhere else. So the consequences for not winning are not the same for every game. Not must win in that if we don't it's the end, but not winning has more consequences for our ultimate objective.
