Sheeran's sponsorship 09:57 - Oct 19 with 8754 views | Zx1988 | Ashton has confirmed that he won't continue the front-of-shirt sponsorship next season, "to allow [the club] to get a bigger sponsor". My immediate thought was "oh yay, Asian betting firm incoming", but it's interesting that Ashton continues to say that part Sheeran's reasoning behind the sponsorship was to get the previous gambling sponsor off the shirt. Hopefully (and I know I'm being naïve here) this might indicate that next year's FoS sponsor might be slightly more palatable than might otherwise be the case?

Sheeran's sponsorship on 16:58 - Oct 21 by olimar | Assuming that Sheeran will eventually stop touring, it would need to change anyway. It's interesting that Sheeran feels it's too expensive because it's the most reciprocal sponsorship any club can possibly have and I assume we would/should ask for far less from Sheeran because of the shirt sales/general interest he generates with his fanbase by wearing it. We will likely see a drop off in shirt sales as a result of losing his sponsorship and wonder if we would recover that value from another bigger sponsor. Is he going to do promotional stuff wearing an ITFC shirt with the name of a big corporate sponsor on the front instead? That would be quite complicated. |
Perhaps Taylor Swift can step in!

its too expensive because its literally the cheapest sponsorship deal in the premiership, including those teams who went up with us. even if you exclude the top 6 in terms of were never competing with those numbers, the average sponsorship deal in the Premier League is worth around 10million quid. Ed aint paying 10million quid to be our sponsor & we arent selling 10million quids worth of shirts off the back of it. however nice its been, if the club are being offered deals of 6million, 8million, we'd be foolish to turn them down, and Eds smart enough to realise the club will be financially better off for it and he still gets to invest in the club and will no doubt promote his next album via the digital ads, or some other means.
