Watching the Forest v Palace game and noticed something 21:17 - Oct 21 with 2613 viewsGlasgowBlue

Both teams seem to commit far more players into the opposition box than we do. Seen this in other games as well. Other than the final 15 minutes of games we only ever seem to have a couple of players in the box.

No goals so far but loads of attacks and chances.

So is Eze. I'm amazed that a team with Eze, Chalobah and Guehi are in the bottom 3.

He’s one I did wonder if we may have been in for over the summer but he went for £30m, no way we were spending that on one player.

They use the pace in their team. At the moment, our ponderous build up is stifling any pace we have I'm afraid. We have sgored 6 league goals. Szmodics against City - a quick break, Delap against Fulham - a quick break and driving run, both Delap goals against Villa - ball moved at pace. The other two - Morsy at Saints and Delap at West Ham were second phsse set pieces. Only when e move it quicker do we look a genuine threat.

That's how we created the Clarke chance against Everton too, it was pretty much the only time we moved the ball quickly enough to allow Burns to run onto a pass played into space.

Wikipedia reports that the Telegraph reports that (I know, I know.....) the actual fee was some £15m rather than the £35m figure that he was apparently initially reported to have gone for. A lot of he said, she said, but he may well have been within our price range. I guess we spent our money and made our choices, and we just have to back Kieran to turn enough of them into world beaters! (well, I'd settle for beating anyone at all right now, actually...)

This is why I think Szmodics needs to play. Without him we don't have anyone that wants to offer a threat in behind. Early days but I am really not convinced at all by Clarke/Davis down that left hand side. Clarke's best football at Sunderland has been hugging the touchline which is the space Davis wants to play in.

Agree with you on Szmodics, and also think we are trying to play it around too much if we get anywhere near the goal.

Obviously it was a different calibre of opposition the last 2 seasons, but we would be much more direct and shoot from distance often bringing rewards.

On this point, compare Clarke's heat map (3rd box down on right column) last season compared to Broadhead's heat map.

I think on occasions Clarke in fact inhibits Leif from making a run down the flank . Personally I prefer Smozics and Obenea to Burns and Clarke .
