Ireland sending off 08:32 - Nov 18 with 1563 viewsWickets

Anyone else feel this was harsh and the penalty would have been enough, ok needless yellow for the first offence think it was for delaying the restart but for the second yellow well I thought he just got done by Jude , l didn't think it was a deliberate foul .

No, both were at least yellow card offences. The second arguably a red as denying a goalscoring opportunity by foul means as the last defender.

It was harsh upon Ireland in the context of the game, but that is on an emotional, rather than rules-based level.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Have I got it wrong as I thought the rule changed a while ago so if it was a deliberate foul yes a card but if a genuine attempt to play the ball the penalty would be deemed sufficient?

I thought that was the downgrading from an automatic red to a yellow for non-deliberate fouls?

Yeah, bit harsh, just a clumsy tackle.

Maybe I missed it, but did Ireland change their system after losing the defender? England just ran them ragged after that.

2 clear yellows, sending off was completely justified.
The first yellow was so stupid & unnecessary, which left him vulnerable against a top player like Bellingham. We'd be giving O'Shea or Burgess pelters on here if one of them got sent off, with 40 minutes to go, against a top side thanks to a first yellow like that.
I did think Ireland should have had a penalty in the first half though, when Guehi dragged down Ferguson. It was really surprising that VAR didn't call for another look at that one; then again nothing should surprise us with VAR.

Before the double jeopardy rule came in, the foul for the penalty would have been a straight red, so it's definitely a second yellow now. I can't see how he can have any complaints.

So? He took him clean out when Bellingham was set to score. It's a yellow. Enough of this thing about it being harder to get a second yellow. It shouldn't be

Could see why the ref gave it, but wouldnt have minded if it wasnt.

Not a controversial decision. We need to move on from interrogating every refereeing decision in minute detail.

Was a very harsh 2nd yellow I thought. Scales just got done by a bit of skill - a clear penalty, but not a deliberate foul, so card was not needed and I was surprised when it was produced.

Rather like when Axel picked up a totally unnecessary yellow after 20 minutes against Spurs. He kicked the ball away when they had been awarded a free kick, but were in no position to take a quick, dangerous one. Left him walking a tightrope for the rest of the game, but he was cute enough to avoid a second yellow.

It's not really about intent though unfortunately, he's wiped out Bellingham just as he's about to score potentially. A few years back and that would have maybe been a straight red.

Yup that was my thoughts at the time . Getting beaten by a bit of skill is for me the important point .
