Portman Road 16:35 - Nov 20 with 1810 viewsLeics_Blue

I'm coming to Portman Road for the first time this year after getting a couple of tickets in the ballot (4 away games and 25 PP's) and was wondering how far along PR is with the upgrades?

Not much chat about it recently but guessing all the major TV bit's will be done, wondered if there is anything else still ongoing, excited to see it in all it's glory for the first time this year!

There's a fooking massive microwave above the tunnel now.

Inside the stadium looks beautiful.

The new TV studio, LED floodlights, Exec Lounges, Press Box, Digital Advertising Boards etc. are all complete. I like the black and white paint job too.

Still work to do on the toilets, concourses, kiosks and fanzone.

I thought it was a 1980s tv.

Back to the OP, the ground is smarter in every way. There will be a lot of Sky cardboard, pitch side stuff before the game, PA bloke getting excited, but looking through that it’s so much better and brighter. Peculiar thing to say as the ground is resplendent in its black paint job.

Obvious changes - see first line. Camera points everywhere, electronic advertising half way down the stands, everything clean. Behind the scenes as has been stated, the facilities (toilets, bars etc) are in need of work.

Access wise, they did a lot of pat down searching before the Villa game and a fair bit before Leicester (didn’t see Everton). Given tv and the opposition I suspect there will be queues getting into the ground so allow time.

Have a great day. I intend to try and enjoy the moment, regardless of the outcome.

Something that I noticed at the Leicester game, that I hadn't noticed before is that there seem to be new floodlights along the top of the Cobbold and West stands.
It may just be that they hadn't been switched on prior to kick-off before, but they were directly in my line of sight from the Cobbold, so I think they must be a recent addition?

Nice one thanks. I've always thought thats since they have re-done the entrance way to the Sir Alf Stand they have missed a trick with those big Blue panels. I'm assuming eventually they will be all sparkly and branded with images like the panels around the Fan Zone leading round to the ticket office/main entrance?

But will it ever recreate the atmsphere of 38,000+ against Leeds in 1978?

I suspect they’ll remain as they are for now. They can access in the inside of the ground from there and future changes will come when (if) the Cobbold is replaced.

The panels with images around the training pitch/ fanzone have been updated and the entrance to PR smartened up. There’s no wandering in for a nose about or a casual word at reception.

The fanzone area itself and back of West Stand offers huge opportunities, subject to the money and of course Council permissions. The ticket office is little more than a rotting portacabin and the area next to it a hidden dumping ground for unused stuff at the moment. It’s a big area of land.

Before the artificial pitch (worn out now) was laid in about 2001, people used to park where the circus tent, benches and other stuff is now. You could walk right round it at half time, depending on mud levels! How times change and continue to change - these days for the better!
