'Early season form' lol. He's played about half an hour of league football this season to be fair to the lad. Half of which when 2-0 down to Liverpool, and most of the rest coming on in the 80 something minute when 3-1 down at the Etihad.

Why have you changed the sentence completely? I said early season sub appearences. Which showed despite the opponents that he's a completely different player to our other two strikers and whilst also carrying his injury isn't that fast to be a nuisance but more of a meh.

I hope he does well of course as do for all our players but It doesn't fill me with confidence having him coming on and he also wouldn't be here if we got another striker in the summer.

Wonder if we can get some cotton wool leggings for him?

I'm confused why everyone is so sure Szmodics is first choice for the left sided spot, is it just because he scored at Spurs?

I actually think it's more likely Clarke comes back in, McKenna will want to get some form into him and I think he suits the team better at home - he just doesn't have the goal threat Szmodics does - but it's not like the latter has shown loads of threat in our home games.

Because our defence becomes better when szmodics is playing with davis and not clarke as he actually has the urgency to get back and help Davis out and do it well which In turn allows our other defenders to go about their jobs.

I think Szmodics has generally given us better shape when he's played so far this season. I like his physicality, tenacity and 'industry' there from the start, with Clarke coming off the bench. His 3 goals obviously help, they've also all been the opening goals of those games too so there is that bias now to thinking he's the better starter of the 2.

I like Clarke though, hasn't really hit it off yet but he's shown glimpses and clearly possesses a lot of quality. I thought at Southampton he was a game changer when he came on, I don't think we get out of there with a point were it not for his contribution.

Sunday I would go:

Muric
Tuanzebe O'Shea Burgess Davis
Morsy Cajuste
Burns Hutchinson Szmodics
Delap

The big argument in favour of starting Clarke right now is it perhaps frees up Szmodics off the bench to replace Delap, perhaps with Chaplin coming on for Clarke and Johnson for Burns. Phillips and Greaves back among the subs would be good to see.

OK. 'Early season sub appearances'. Lol.

He's barely had a kick this season, where he has have generally been against 2 of the best sides in Europe, at the end of games that were already beyond us and lacking any intensity.

I'm not disputing his readiness for the premier league, I don't think anyone is, but to point to his half an hour of football this season as evidence is ludicrous. I don't think he's a completely different player at all, stylistically he's not dissimilar to Delap he's just nowhere near the levels.

Lol. He's not similar to delap in anyway. Correct on the level tho.

All i saw when he came on last season and in those sub appearences this season Is a player who likes to run. He doesn't run where you actually want him to run but he does run.

I mean he is, he's an out and out #9. Physical, good balance, runs in the channels, plays off the last shoulder, pace, work rate, looks to link up play with his back to goal, scores goals, can use both feet. If you've seen any of AAH at Wimbledon his game is similar, they both meet the profile of what McKenna wants in our #9 hence he's signed them both. That's not to say we've seen a huge amount of it from AAH, but that shouldn't be confused with their attributes.

The difference really is their ability to execute the role, but given one signed in the Championship for relative peanuts from L2 and the other in the Premier league from Man City for up to £20m, you get what you pay for to a large degree.

Anyone know if this knee injury is to the same knee he injured after he returned from the Hamstring lay off?

I do wonder though, why he continued to play in when he injured his knee.
