And, coincidentally, the Palace match in the Carabao Cup in 2017, the last time we played them. McCarthy: Palace Tie an Opportunity for Youngsters 21st Aug 2017 21:54Boss Mick McCarthy says the Blues' young players should treat Tuesday’s Carabao Cup second round tie away against Premier League Crystal Palace as an opportunity to break into his thoughts for future first-team games, the Town manager having confirmed that he’ll field an entirely changed XI at Selhurst Park (KO 7.30pm). 43

I can't find one. I wondered if one of the European ties might have kicked off earlier but can't find one on our database.

Possible other EFL Cup games could have started early as well and plenty of friendlies have started at 7.30.

Am going to take a punt - either our game with Leicester City in April 1986 or the Simod Cup tie with Norwich in 1988, simply because the Simod/Zenith Data Systems Cup pulled all sorts of weird sheet in the late 80s. Simon Milton owes his place as one of 4 Town players to have scored on each day of the week to him scoring in a ZDS cup tie against Wimbledon on Thursday 21 December 1989. We had an away game at Hull scheduled for the Saturday, but it was postponed. That Leicester game was a mood killer. Having gained a draw at title chasing Chelsea a few days earlier, and with a good post Christmas record against other struggling sides, that Leicester game was approached with confidence. Instead, we were 2 down inside 16 minutes and spiralled to relegation over the final 6 games of the season. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
