Let's keep a bit of perspective about Walton 23:01 - Dec 30 with 1377 viewsBlaggers12

I always felt that Walton was a better all round goalkeeper than Hladky, but Vaz had such good ability with the ball at his feet, it really helped us turn defence into attack at many key points last year. Once we'd settled on a style of play, Hladky grew into that position and it was nailed on. Somebody somewhere thought that Muric was an upgrade on Hladky, and whilst he has pulled off some great saves, he's also been involved in a lot of errors that have led to goals.

So against Liverpool, CW did no wrong, and tonight you can tell that he is not the most comfortable with the ball at his feet, but he claimed his crossed, made some good saves, one outstanding, and most importantly committed no major errors. If Walton is only in tonight because of KMc's tactical game plan, then so be it, and tonight's game in context shouldn't be the one where we judge him, even if we had to park the bus at times. I'm not sure he's the long term answer, but he probably causes fewer errors than Muric, which might be the difference between 17th and 18th place.

Can’t drop him after that no matter what the tactical plan is for the next game...but what do I know

I'm pro Muric and think he has tools to be a long term keeper for us as he matures. Also think McKenna was right to stick with him and we should support him.

Always rated Walton above Vaz despite his heroics last season. Walton keeping a clean sheet and playing well means he should start next game. Healthy competition.

Rumours Muric was unwell, Walton has no doubt grabbed his chance, I’m pleased for him as he’s been a fantastic servant to the club.
Ultimately Muric is the better keeper with the higher ceiling if he can cut out mistakes, can’t help think he might perform better and with more confidence if he received the same unwavering support as Walton did tonight

He did drop a clanger in the second half, passed the ball right into the path of Palmer who would have been clear through on goal if Wolfy hadn't got across to get his toe in.

Apart from that, a decent performance from Walton.

Don't boil a kettle on a boat.

One thing I noticed is the communication levels between defence and keeper are a lot higher with Walton than Muric. He keeps them ticking along.

His default clearance is kick it up field, but to be fair that is his strength. KM had clearly decided to let him do that even for goal kicks. Play to your strengths, nothing wrong with that.

KM isn't going to want that style forever, but we needed a home win and it worked. It also keep Cucurella pinned back, and while he's a diving fecking cheat he's also an excellent wingback who often creates a lot of chances for Chelsea, but not tonight

I was sceptical about Walts playing today but he's more than earned his place next game if KM decides to stick.

Can just imagine the wailing from some if Muric is back v Fulham...
