Films. Are there any good ones any more. And have I missed proper ones 18:54 - Jan 4 with 2796 viewsredrickstuhaart

from the past?

I am watching LA Confidential for the first time in 20 years. What an absolutely cracking film it is.

I have paid little attention to cinema or films for years. Not least because Netflix and series have taken over, and every other film is some twot in spandex with lots of CGI...

Matt Damon is ALWAYS uncharismatic.

Ridley Scott? Sure- But choose 2 from Bladerunner, Alien and The Martian...

Disagree regarding Matt Damon. I have liked him since Dogma.

Don't need to choose from any of those 3 films! I can enjoy all three, depending on what mood I'm in.

Maybe that's your problem. You're comparing new films with a rose-tinted view that nothing can be better than it used to be. That's not the attitude. Just enjoy films (or not) on their own merit. You're just doing yourself out of enjoying literally hundreds of great films by being blinkered by a supposed superiority of the past film making that doesn't exist.

Significant that you dont want to pick 2 from those 3. You and I both know the answer!

You're wrong. If I had to choose, you really wouldn't like the answer. But I don't have to.

LA Confidential is a fabulous film!!! On Prime currently I believe as I watched it again over Xmas.

My top film list over the years:
Se7en
The Game - Such a clever clever film!
The Shining - Kubrick version
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Identity - Another film that didn't get the acclaim
Beautiful Mind
The Long Good Friday

I did cheat on the above, as we just moved house and my DVD collection along with a pressie of a DVD player for Xmas. So I'm reeling in the years.... Apocalypse Now is another and if being brave the Redux version.

not exactly disproving the O/Ps original point with that list though.

Pixar make great kids films. Im not a kid.

If you think Pixar films are solely for kids they’re probably going over your head a bit.

At least an 8 tbh.

Though not To Have and Have Not. Which was a solid 9.5

To be more specific. Films used to haev a feel, and actors with charisma, rather than knowing smarmy snark or OTT "look at me".

Bogart and Bacall eh?

Hemmingway, Chandler.

Great films?

Plenty in more recent years but I can't resist a David Lean or Powell & Pressburger.

And don't get me started on Welles, Hitchcock and the French New Wave.

Poll: Are this group of ITFC players the best squad in the division?

From the last few years:

Parasite
The Zone of Interest
JoJo Rabbit
Knives Out

Triangle of Sadness was an odd film. I didn’t enjoy the first time I watched it but actually quite liked it on second viewing.

But agree, generally there haven’t been many great films released since Covid decimated the creative industries.
