Celtic have allegedly had a £10m bid turned down by Villa. He has no track record at a high level and did absolutely nothing here when we were in L1. Crazy money.

I don't see that valuation, but he should never have been sent to town on loan. We were not a club in a position to help develop a prospect at all.

Forgive me, I meant to say - I can't see how they arrive at that valuation of him. I agree with you on that front.

Scottish Prem is about the same level as Stockport.

He’ll earn far more money playing in that league than L1, so he might as well.

I think there were some issues for Barry at Ipswich which meant he didn't perform his best. He was only 18 at the time I think. The management team at the time could be brutal with some players and he wasn't a fit for them. There was a similar issue with Fraser who had left a long time before his official transfer out of the club. There's a reason that things went so wrong at the start of that season.

This is why I think Barry being sent to us was a big mistake from Villa's front. We needed a player who would be up to the task of lifting us out of a mess and the expectation was certainly that he'd perform at a League 1 standard or better. When he didn't, we didn't have room or resources to coach him into a 1st time role and in some ways probably stunted his development.

Didn’t he have another poor loan move at MK Dons too?

He then went down to League 2 and had a season and a half at Stockport, which is where he has flourished.

Still very young, but unproven at a higher level. Guess the £10m is for potential, at his age.

We didn't have the coaches at that time to develop a player like that, or deal with him. We had a manager and his mates as the coaches hanging players out to dry expecting a ton of strangers to suddenly work together off the bat. You put a 18-year-old into that environment anywhere and they won't typically do well.

Barry has done exceptionally well at Stockport and is a much-loved player there. He will star in the SPL.

I honestly think the AV youth setup estimated his ability above his potential with us, and MK Dons. I'd love to see the young lad come good, but I think AV ruined any chance of him becoming an early bloomer by trying to fast track his development.

Agree, he wasn’t ready for League One, when he came here or MK Dons. Looks like it was a year wasted, but if they get £10m+ don’t think Villa will worry about it.

It does show getting young players in, that can be developed or loaned out is a model that makes you a lot of money.

It is why the big academies hoover up anyone with talent from other clubs.

And it's pure profit for Villa, which will help a club on the borderline of PSR

We also do it to a lesser extent, not so much for profit but to stop others from taking them, the amount of young players we hoover up locally, only to spit them out at Leiston, Yarmouth, Chelmsford and so on is quite incredible. If you have played at that level nearly every team has a couple who have been through our system at some point.
