Return of the front 3/4 change at 70 08:33 - Jan 24 with 1608 views | jasondozzell | KM has now got the players to do this. As many have said, it's been very noticeable how reluctant he's been to make those big changes this season. Enciso Hutch Philogene Delap Hirst Broady Szmods Burns Chappers Taylor Clarke Some pretty big firepower now

The 5 at the back worked for a while but it's been picked off the last two matches. I expect we will still play that tomorrow but then maybe 4231 against Southampton. SB

Agree 100%. Makes me nervous we will have forgotten how to play 4-2-3-1 against Saints.

More freedom going forward then, 5 has kept us tight but stuffed the attack but the subs have no impact, As the OP says we now have better personnel to bring on as we've strengthened the front 4, On a side note is Kieran playing cloak and dagger or are we not going for another striker, his comments there hard to find,
Return of the front 3/4 change at 70 on 10:13 - Jan 24 with 1280 views | Rimsy | I was an advocate of 5 at the back, but I was wrong, it has definitely affected our identity as an attacking goalscoring team. With the latest additions I think it's time to go back to 4231 and really go for it the remainder of the season.

Going 5 at the back was a response to the Newcastle game and in preparation for the Arsenal one. Given we were shellacked by City Sunday and get Liverpool out of the way tomorrow, I suspect we are going to look to fight fire with fire in order to try and stay up.

The concerning thing is it was only picked off after we had conceded in both games - and four at the back looked an even bigger mess than a back three against Brighton.

Hmm. We've scored four goals in five league games with three at the back. Prior to that, with a back four, we scored three in five.

I was thinking more the way we've played for the last 2 years. Going to a five hasn't exactly helped our attacking play.

It's hardly denting it, though. Our xG was as follows for the final five games with four at the back: Forest - 0.63 (Forest 1.63) Palace - 0.49 (1.53) Bournemouth - 1.33 (2.99) Wolves - 1.26 (1.02) Newcastle - 0.70 (2.31) Average - 0.88 (1.90) Since the switch... Arsenal - 0.16 (1.94) Chelsea - 1.58 (2.00) Fulham - 1.47 (1.34) Brighton - 0.29 (0.97) Man City - 0.65 (2.84) Average - 0.83 (1.82) Source - Flashscore I'd argue, considering the opposition, the difference is negible in attack and, in general, the defence has become more secure. I just think 4-2-3-1 leaves us too exposed, albeit we will get thrashed whatever we play if we don't turn up (see Newcastle and Manchester City). It might be the right approach for Southampton, but that's the only game where I'd get behind it at the moment. We need to tighten up as much as we can, as I don't think we have enough standard at the required standard in attack to score freely. I think a three helps us more of a four in that regard.
