I think I would revert back to the 4231 now that Axel is back and we have Philogene and Enciso through the door.
The 5 at the back worked for a while but it's been picked off the last two matches. I expect we will still play that tomorrow but then maybe 4231 against Southampton.

5 has kept us tight but stuffed the attack but the subs have no impact,
As the OP says we now have better personnel to bring on as we've strengthened the front 4,

I was an advocate of 5 at the back, but I was wrong, it has definitely affected our identity as an attacking goalscoring team. With the latest additions I think it's time to go back to 4231 and really go for it the remainder of the season. |  |

Going 5 at the back was a response to the Newcastle game and in preparation for the Arsenal one.
Given we were shellacked by City Sunday and get Liverpool out of the way tomorrow, I suspect we are going to look to fight fire with fire in order to try and stay up. |  |

I'd argue, considering the opposition, the difference is negible in attack and, in general, the defence has become more secure. I just think 4-2-3-1 leaves us too exposed, albeit we will get thrashed whatever we play if we don't turn up (see Newcastle and Manchester City). It might be the right approach for Southampton, but that's the only game where I'd get behind it at the moment.
We need to tighten up as much as we can, as I don't think we have enough standard at the required standard in attack to score freely. I think a three helps us more of a four in that regard. | |
