Retro Football Management Game 09:25 - Jan 30 with 6259 viewsblrmy

Interested? Miss the days of simple but fun football management games?

Fancy getting involved in a TWTD project - for single player or multi-player?

With a look and feel like the "good old days". If you grew up in the 1980's, and had a ZX Spectrum, Vic 20, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC or a BBC Micro, even an early IBM PC, you'll know what I mean.

Pick your team, set tactics, buy/sell players, and lead your club to league and cup glory!

Gain promotion and avoid relegation!

Quick and simple to play. And fun (hopefully).

WHAT ISN'T IT?
Loads of stats. Hours of management complexities. PhD required.

More info here: https://retro-football-manager.com/gameinfo.php

Create an account on the home page at https://retro-football-manager.com

If we can gather a few people to join the "TWTD League" - we can test out the multi-player fun! I was thinking to set the match schedule every 2 days? But we can agree otherwise.

UPDATE: TWTD League now full, but please do join the Suffolk League :)
UPDATE: Sufffolk League now full, go for the East Anglian League :)

(If you create your own league, you can manually run games whenever you want or set an automatic schedule).

Looking for people who enjoy the above and fancy being involved in a hopefully a fun project!

(Posted with Gavin's permission - if this is popular we can set up a separate chat area)

Both excellent for various reasons :)
The first was my most-played childhood game, the second fondly remembered.

I want to use real names - but can't for legal reasons (unless there's a lawyer in the room?!).

I shifted this retro game to multi-player (optionally - can play single player).

Was that game the successor to "The Boss"? I definitely recognise the bloke's face.

Spent many, many hours playing The Boss with my cousin when we were kids, happy days.

Under "AVAILABLE LEAGUES TO JOIN" you should be able to see leagues, including "Suffolk League" which I'd suggest you join?

Can drop me an email at simon@retro-football-manager.com any time and I'll help you out.

One of the best things about the original Toms Football Manager on the Spectrum was in the 24 players available were E Gates, M Mills and B Talbot.

I will have a go. I like simple. I do simple.

hey - at the moment, only from the transfer list and scouting.

I have buying from other clubs on my "is it a good idea?" list :)

Good luck to Violetfeld!

Personally i think it would add a lot of value to be able to player trade. This would make things interesting as peoples finances are going to fluctuate. If someone overspends and starts winning but then falls into the red they will have to sell players - others in the league who are managing their budgets better could then benefit. Also adds a bit of a story to the experience - for example I'd be gutted to lose my 17 year old 75 rated striker to a league rival, especially when he goes on to fire that team to glory.

haha - yeah, the temptation is to add more and more, and then it becomes more of a chore. There's enough ultra-complicated games out there! You can edit your player names. The default names are based on open source lists - the lawyer's have ruined that side of things to set up with default known players (as much as I'd love to!)

So at the moment, if you over-spend and go into the red, your board will sell a player - you don't get to pick who! So might be your 17 year 75 rated striker!!!

Buying and selling between clubs isn't in the game (transfer list and scout is). But it's an interesting idea. You could then trade if you agree with each other...

I think it is something that would progress as seasons and years in the game progress as well. At first I imagine it would be very difficult to prize players from other teams, but as the game progresses needs change. And there is always the scouting to find new players to bring into the league.

Also at the minute when you sell players it appears as though they disappear all together - another idea to consider is the board putting that player on the transfer list which other clubs could bid for

Would love to take part but don’t have the time.

Did have a look at the site though and it’s giving me Ultimate Soccer Manager vibes. What a game that was, I used to love the match fixing stuff and bungs, and the hack where you could offer your coaches & scouts 99,999,999 a week contract then when you offered them a new deal they wanted minus money, so you absolutely coined it in every week.

Loved the aspect of ground redevelopments and building the burger bars etc too, like theme park meets champ man. Just flicking through the USM 1995 images here makes me hella nostalgic.

Not seen that one Clive - it does have similar vibes by the screenshots!

It's early days - hoping to get lots of feedback (and minimal bugs!) in this real-world first test.

Been blown away by the interest, thanks to all!

Go for the East Anglian League (I'll edit original post) - There are 5 leagues with promotion and relegation (the red * beside them).

if you are interested in re-playing it, you can get it on either Android or IOS. Just search for "Kevin Toms" in either store.

https://play.google.com/store/search?q=kevin%20toms&c=apps&hl=en_GB

https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/kevin-toms-football-manager/id1130764879

It plays just like the original and has players from the 80's in it - MILLS / OSMAN / BUTCHER...

edit: works on MacOS aswell

I can't believe how invested I've become in such a simple game with made up players and fake teams! (Helps when you're top of the league though)

I wanted to post here to give some kudos to blrmy, the features just keep on coming while maintaining that simple, retro feel. Nice work blrmy!

I agree completely.
It has been great fun.
The end or the first season approaches this week.
A match every other day is perfect.
Get involved. Come on the Oaks ....

Wel done blrmy.

Goin' up,
We're goin' up
We're goin',
Oakmere goin' up !

I'd like to thank my parents for bringing up a football genius.
For the supporters who have stood with the Oaks and me.
And not least blrmy for giving me the opportunity to display my skills.

To my front line of Mariner, Brazil and Gates for most of the goals.
And of course Wark for plundering 6 goals so far from midfield.
Not to mention Hunter for being so solid at the back.

East Anglian League watch out.

Here come the Oaks !!
