Us and Southampton have both thrown a lot of money at trying to be competitive too. Can't help but think this is bad for the game.

The 3 promoted teams (probably) going down, same as last year on 19:51 - Feb 1 with 1070 views | bsw72 | As i said earlier - PL becoming a closed shop with the financial gap between the established clubs and the promoted clubs getting ever wider. Forest may well be the last of the long term Championship clubs to have made it, just, last season. I think Financial fair play is actually working against the promoted clubs but if Leeds don't survive next season (they will get promoted) then everyone else will be doomed.

If the three promoted sides go down, it'll be first season clubs up against fourth season clubs next year - men against boys. But it's what the PL wants though. If they can't have a full closed shop, they'll gladly take seventeen permanent members, with three 'guest' sides each season. If they can make the 'guest' sides a fixed pool of six, so much the better.

Alternatively, it's a sad indictment of the inherent advantage that multi-season teams have, that a club can become a complete basket case and still stand a chance of survival.

The 3 promoted teams (probably) going down, same as last year on 20:10 - Feb 1 with 825 views | Pique | Depressing, isn't it? If you were promoted at the right time, you'll effectively now be a Premier League team in perpetuity. Even if, like Bournemouth, you're effectively a League One outfit on paper. After 20 odd years of hoping we get to the promised land, it's been a bit of a shock to realise that it's actually a closed shop. Whatever we did, we were damned. Spend over £100 million to strengthen the squad? Sorry, you've just killed all cohesion and team spirit and it's impossible to integrate everyone in time: relegation. Don't spend the money? You'll get killed! Relegation. Personally I'm disillusioned by the whole thing. So we go back down and build again - for what? To get destroyed in the Premier League again because the whole thing has moved up another level during our absence? I've been focusing a lot more on non-league recently and supporting my local team. Nice crowds, can have a pint, sensible prices and some pretty decent football. The modern game, at the top level, is dead. We now have an NFL-style detached super league in all but name.
