My mother would use nothing else but that blue Basildon Bond. She had a nice pad sized leather cover for it too. That and a Parker Pen.
At school we had to use fountain pens - no biros allowed! At first it was those ones with a bottle of Quink ink. Then cartridges became permissible so far less chance of dropping a bottle of it or making too much mess. Sadly none of it improved my truly terrible handwriting.

I was sent off to school with a very odd looking pen and a bottle of ink. I had no idea what to do with them (and still don’t). Rather than this meaning I went to school at the same time as you, in hindsight I think my parents were well behind the times. Other kids in my class had biros.
