Crossed to the dark side today 21:54 - Feb 8 with 6073 views | the_toff | I got a message from a friend of mine at 10am this morning asking if I fancied going to watch Norwich. He’s a season ticket holder and the mate he goes with couldn’t make it. I’m guessing I was down the pecking order given I’m Ipswich and didn’t get invited until this morning, but against my better judgement I went along. I don’t get to many games now tickets at PR are so difficult to come by so why not I thought. We met in Norwich at midday for a few beers pre match, must admit I didn’t even check who they were playing and it didn’t become apparent until I saw some Derby fans in the city centre. Even at that point it didn’t twig that Jackson & Harness are both there to be honest, but walking to Carrow Road the penny dropped and I was looking forward to seeing them. I was disappointed to see them both on the bench. Norwich really are average. They looked to be heading that way last season while we marched to promotion but they were really toothless today. The atmosphere was absolutely crap as well. They’re not going up. Imagine my delight when Harness won an injury time penalty to deny them the win. I couldn’t celebrate as I was in the home end but I definitely smiled as the ball hit the net. It was nice to catch up with my friend though, we both had tough years last year for different reasons and enjoyed a few more beers with him post match.

It wasn’t like that. We’d go for something to do and it was always funny if they lost or it was a poor game. Oddly enough, I don’t think I ever saw Norwich win at CR. Never mind eh. Wherever my dad was working or living we’d always go to games if we couldn’t see ITFC. In the south west we’d choose Exeter, Torquay or Argyle on one occasion, but for convenience it’d be Torquay where possible. Great fun. In Kent, we’d watch Gillingham or Palace if we were both about and ITFC were away. I guess we just liked watching football and I sort of carried that on with chums over the years. But it’s never the same as watching your own team. You sort of observe, but don’t engage or care. Back to them lot, I want them to lose every game until hell freezes over, but I don’t hate them in the way I do say West Ham and their ghastly, ugly all day supporters. |
"I dont think I ever saw Norwich win at CR ...." Quick. Buy the Churchman a Budgie season ticket. I took my best girlfriend to see the Town 3 times. We lost all of them. Never took her again and we've been married 45 years. The only question I have bee asked is why did I not stop at 2 ?
Crossed to the dark side today on 11:33 - Feb 10 with 535 views | TexacoCup | I went to all the Town v norwich games home and away in the 70s, they were tasty on and off the field! One Saturday we were on a coach set to go to QPR, the game was called off and we re-routed to CR for their game against West Brom. Some of us went in the Barclay's pen with the WBA fans and the police walked the rest of us along the side of the pitch from the River End into the WBA pen - norwich fans looked puzzled as we passed by, silk scarfs and all! All was fun in the pen, with norwich fans chanting 'give us the Ipswich' etc. We'd beaten Albion 7-0 earlier in that season and norwich fans reminded those from WBA about it and the formerly welcoming Albion fans turned a little bit! It got a triffle worrying after that, so we left at half-time - great fun and just a little bit dangerous !

It’s fair question! One of the oddest budgie games was at West Ham. I went to it with my mate having drunk our way to Upton Park and in we shambled. Norwich scored and because the idiot was so p£ssed, he forgot were he was. In with the home supporters down one of the sides. Despite not exactly being ICF territory, the semi toothed old codgers and warty women started getting restless. I pretended to like West Ham which bought a bit of confusion time. I was thinking here I am at a NCFC game about to get into bother with a load of animals from a club I despise even more. Not good. Fortunately, West Ham equalised late in the game and we got away without further ado. ‘Are we going to see out added time?’ he said. ‘Like fk we are’ said I, happy to flee like my hero and ultimate poltroon Flashman.
