The lack of punishment for diving/cheating 08:15 - Feb 16 with 922 views | Dubtractor | We're all very much used to players diving to try and win penalties, but it was another game yesterday where there was no punishment for obvious examples of it. The Morgan Rogers one in the first minute, and Rashford throwing himself in the air in the second half. Both involved no contact, and there is no doubt about the intent to deceive the ref given both players ran at him screaming for a penalty. VAR reviewed both to confirm no contact/foul, and even then there is seemingly no need to give a yellow to the cheating players. When players know they can cheat without repercussions, it's no surprise that they do just that. It's particularly galling when we end up with a player sent off for two pretty innocuous challenges, with the first not even a foul.

There's never been any retrospective ban for cheating as far as I'm aware, but there certainly should be. As the OP says, diving would be reduced to a fraction if there was.

I think it’s the biggest problem in football (at least on the pitch) and is in danger of ruining the game.

I stand corrected. That'll be both the most encouraging and least enforced rule in FA history then.

I believe they have since binned that. There is no appetite from FIFA, the FA, refs and the players themselves to stamp this out and it’s just become an unpleasant part of the game. Win a penalty or get out an opponent sent off, job done and you have given your team an advantage.

Chelsea. But it's okay with Delap because he gets booked every other week when other players fall over when "coming together" with him.
