Possibly a stupid question, but when did refs stop writing in 14:33 - Feb 16 with 928 viewsjasondozzell

Their book? Just realised that they never seem to do it anymore. I could be decades behind here...😁

I suppose 4th official does the admin now although lower league football will still see a ref gleefully licking his pencil and asking a player to turn round and show his number.

If you are watching televised football then the ref simply tells the 4th Official.

The Premiership refs are a bit if a law unto themselves with this. Sometimes they will and sometimes they wont.

Grassroots refs will always record the discipline. It is actually a useful tool for "killing" the game when up a height.

Refs down the pyramid will not get promoted if they don't follow the correct cautioning procedure

I miss it! Will have to get to a lower league game to get my fill of ref's notepad!

Thank you! That's really interesting to know. I guess I quite like them actually writing it in the book so wish the prem referees would all do it.

Always imagine they've got pens like those ones you get in the bookies

Ha ha

There is a system called "The Whole Game" that actually has every club and every player listed. The record spelling just needs to be there or thereabouts as the recording of discipline is very much a dropdown box affair on line.

More to the point, they will have had a teamsheet submitted with the names and correct shirt numbers on it.

‘Ah sod it, can you just write it in for me.’

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?
