I’ve popped into the pub by mistake. 15:33 - Feb 19 with 3744 views | Lord_Lucan | Had a few beers and thought I would have a couple of large G&Ts before going back to work. I love a gin and tonic but haven’t bought one for ages unless in a group situation. £9.60 in a real ale type pub not in city centre. Wouldn’t you say this is excessive or am I behind the times? I was thinking £6

I’ve popped into the pub by mistake. on 08:44 - Feb 20 by Oldsmoker | I like the taste of Boddingtons - and it reminds me of my time living up North. We've had discussions about non-alcohol beers on here and some have approved so questioning the alcohol content is daft. I don't want to drink myself into a drunken stupor and I question anyones life choices if 'having a drink' is always to get legless. I'm 71 not 17. |
And some of the "non alcohol drinks" are very nice, id drink Big Drop non alcohol beers over current Boddies in a can any day of the week. So its not about getting blasted. but the alcohol content is part of the taste of the beer, and what you're drinking now is nothing like what you remember from living up North, unless you were drinking this out of cans back then, which you weren't. It was originally 3.8%-4.2% I think as an ale, perfectly decent session beer, loved the original myself, even liked the mass produced early 90s not from Strangeways version, this is not the original or even that. They dropped it to 3.4% to save tax money, they claim they can recreate the taste, probably by destroying the recipe over hopping it to make it taste of anything other than coloured water. They don't use the original yeast or malts either. Next time you're oop north goto the Marble Arch in Manchester try their Manchester Bitter, brewed to the original Boddingtons bitter recipe, compare and contrast to your can of drink. So drink whatever you like, but don't pretend your 11 cans of barely beer is a replacement for drinking a pint of beer in a pub as a comparison.

This will be useless to practically everyone, but a pub in Heanor called Redemption has very cheap beers, around £3.50 a pint.

I’ve popped into the pub by mistake. on 10:52 - Feb 20 with 298 views | Len_Brennan | I met up with old mates & stayed at a hotel in Islington for the Spurs game in November, so had 2 days & 1 night of drinking, which is very much a rarity for me these days. In a cashless world I wasn't really paying attention to the price of the round each time. When I checked my online banking a couple of days later, I couldn't believe it; in one spot on the Saturday night it was just under £50, where 4 were drinking pints, with one whisky & coke. Great weekend, great game, great to catch up with mates from 30 years ago that hardly ever get to meet up anymore; but I lost the high moral ground for a while, when discussing my wife's online shopping exorbitance.
