I think this mineral grab is actually deflection. He wants to normalise relations with Russia to open that market for him and his cronies. It's Russia that want the mineral wealth and this will be a bargaining chip in the Trump / Putin talks. [Post edited 20 Feb 13:18]

I agree that there are few words that describe Trump better than "deflection"
But I can't agree that Trump and his cronies are on an assets grab and in cahoots with Putin and his cronies. Sure, two countries can rape, pillage and asset strip another but unless their actions are state (or deep state) sanctioned, they are going to get taken out by other power structures in their respective countries. |  | | |
