Budapest 19:20 - Feb 23 with 1201 views | Zx1988 | Doing 3.5 days in Budapest with Mrs Zx in April; in Wednesday 16th, out Saturday 19th. Any recommendations for things worth doing/places worth seeing? I assume Good Friday may throw a small spanner in the works, given the fairly religious nature of that part of Europe?

Budapest on 20:00 - Feb 23 with 1135 views | WickhamsLeftBoot | Went to Budapest a few years back over the Easter weekend, next to nothing open on Good Friday. The parliament building is very impressive, as is the fisherman’s bastion. Would recommend a boat cruise along the Danube, there’s plenty of vendors in town which sell tickets. It’s a lovely city to walk around, and even better if the weather is nice. The weekend before and after I went were stunning, temps topped 6 Celsius when I went.
Budapest on 20:11 - Feb 23 with 1124 views | Immy | The pinball museum was a hidden gem - a few Euros to get in and then you can go in and out all day and play on all the machines for free, some dating back to the 1950s. Going up the funicular and having a pint looking over the city as the sun sets was lovely. The ruin bars were also fun, Szimpla is the biggest and best known. Budapest also has plenty of spas, some are more party orientated but I went to Rudas, which was nice and chill. There's also the football, depending on when you fly out on the 19th Ferencvaros will be playing at home that day. You need to be a club member, which you can sign up for on the day but will take some time with the queuing, so make sure you allow time for it if you do go

Memento Park is definitely on the list. Is it as far out and/or tricky to get to as it looks?

It's a little way out but fairly easy to get to by metro then a short bus ride.
Budapest on 08:05 - Feb 24 with 815 views | BrentwoodBlagger2 | Loved Budapest - we stayed at the Sofitel next the Chain Link Bridge, so everything was in walking distance. Enjoyed the food and the bars around the ruins were decent and not very expensive. Locals very friendly, but not too many spoke English. Was never concerned about crime out there. Highly recommend the restaurant up at Castle Hill overlooking the city - good food and good view. Enjoy! [Post edited 24 Feb 8:07]

If you are going to the Parliament building then book it before you go and for your itinerary around it. The visiting hours are limited and they get booked out by ticket companies. https://jegymester.hu/production/480000/hungarian-parliament-building-parliament The synagogue is definitely worth a visit as are the memorials to the Jews that have suffered over the centuries in Hungary. Pest is pretty vibrant and the covered gothic market is a must in my opinion. As other have said, Fisherman's Bastille and an evening boat trip are worth doing too.

Budapest on 11:31 - Feb 24 with 685 views | DJR | I visited Budapest in 1981 when it was communist and was blown away by it. In those days though, there was little in the way of eateries, and when we arrived at about 8pm, the only place open to eat was a pretty basic cafe, with liver and potatoes the only option. I also remember the bullet holes on the Parliament Building from the 1956 uprising, and the two of us (both male) eating alone in the relatively grand station restaurant and being serenaded by a couple of violinists as if we were a married couple. I imagine it's changed in the sense of there being many more touristy options but the grandeur and setting of the place is what really counts. [Post edited 24 Feb 12:35]

Budapest on 12:22 - Feb 24 with 624 views | ThisIsMyUsername | I love Budapest and have been there three times. It's helpful that my best friend lives there now so I have somewhere to stay for free for all/part of the trip. I'd recommend going up to the Citadel on the Buda side around sunset to observe the wonderful views of the city. A walk around Margaret Island is nice when the weather is pleasant. The baths are all good. The 'main' one (Szechenyi) is relatively expensive compared to the others. Lukacs on the Buda side is a bit cheaper and still nice. There is also Rudas in Buda. Just be aware that you might end up going on 'men only' day without realising like I did and get hit on (it's a compliment I guess). Edit: Though you wouldn't get in with your Mrs of course. For goulash, I recommend the 'Goulash and Langosh Bar' on the Pest side. [Post edited 24 Feb 12:26]
