Two tier Keith Stalin strikes again. on 13:26 - Feb 27 by leitrimblue | I'm not keen on locking people up for petty crimes myself. But I'd feel a bit different about acts of violence. If any if us were for example giving out to our local MP about the state of the roads etc and he started lashing out, as victims I think we would be looking for the perpetrator to face a custodial sentence. I don't mean a long sentence either. Think 2-3 months would be enough to put manners on him. Just don't think it looks good for someone to be committing quite violent acts and getting away with a slap on the wrist and keeping there 90 grand a year income |
With you on the sentencing - seems very lenient. We shouldn’t be clogging jails up unnecessarily, but a couple of months would certainly have sent a better message, but whatever. I find it a bit strange that the judge reduced the alcohol monitoring bit from a year to 120 days. I can’t see a reason to do that. And it would actually help the silly pillock sort his life out. Two tier Keith Stalin strikes again. on 04:09 - Feb 28 by Benters | You know as much as I that had this been a Tory MP punching a member of the public to the ground, and then laying into him while he was down you would say ‘lock him up and throw away the key’ and such like. |
You seem to be mistaking me for a Labour supporter.

Two tier Keith Stalin strikes again. on 15:54 - Feb 27 by DJR | Maybe we should be going down the Norwegian route. In this sense, bringing in the chap from Timpson's may be a start, but no doubt he won't get far with the "lock 'em up" mentality that prevails in this country. "Norway's criminal justice system focuses on the principles of restorative justice and the rehabilitation of prisoners. Correctional facilities in Norway focus on maintaining custody of the offender and attempting to make them functioning members of society. Norway's prison system is renowned as one of the most effective and humane in the world. Norway has one of the lowest recidivism rates in the world; in 2018 the reconviction rate was 18% within two years of release, with a recidivism rate of 25% after five years." I should add that commenting on individual sentences seems a waste of time to me, if you haven't sat through the trial, and are not aware of the sentencing guidelines. [Post edited 27 Feb 16:44]

That sounds like a good suggestion, but it seems we’re looking to the country with the highest reoffending rate for inspiration https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cr52399eqgqo
