It’s genuinely great to see Forest bothering the top 3 16:43 - Mar 15 with 993 viewsMullet

They’re a great side, Nuno is a decent manager. But when they’ve done this to us and we’ve had all the fight of something that’s been dead for a few weeks it’s hard to watch innit?

I can take relegation - I’ve never been a big fan of the Prem and this season confirms all my misgivings of it, but you want your team in the best possible shape and place. Seeing us all over the shop, soft goals, ignoring each other is hard to fathom.

An absolute top class goal from Cajuste as a consolation sort of sums up the conundrum of being this far off the standard. We’ve heard all the talk of “small margins” every game, but when you stack them up into the middle of March then the gulf is clear.

Our lack of fight is what’s unforgivable. We’ve been a soft touch too often.

A busy summer on the back of such a comprehensive relegation mightn’t be the route we’ll take, but bar Delap, and to a lesser extent Hutch, Philo and Palmer, I wouldn’t be too concerned if we cut our losses on our season’s recruits.

My guess is that any decent offer and McKenna will go. Which I’d hate to see. But I’m around long enough to understand modernity and that’s life, that’s football.

I remember Forest beating Malmo courtesy of Trevor Francis. Looks like they’ll be back in Europe soon. For one season maybe? That’s life now. That’s football now.

The Forest side I really remember being decent from my youth had the likes of
Roy and van Hoidonk et al in it - but they were always “proper” to me. A housemate at Uni was a fan and hated Platt for putting them in Div 3 etc.

I’d rather see them than plastic clubs crashing the Prem and just clinging on.

As for us, I don’t believe the backlash towards McKenna is anything more than people’s reptilian brains taking over. While I cringe at some of the messianic stuff dished out his way, he’s got us here. It’s just here isn’t that fun. It’s a bit like being invited to an orgy then being handed a mop and told you’re on clean up.

We need a rebuild as we built a rocket ship in mid air or whatever Ashton said. Some long to medium term strengthening is what we need now. The money and pain of this season might be a bedrock for that.

Players in our team aren’t going to sit about this summer thinking “well the Prem was nice, but I’ve had my taste and that’ll do” will they? They’ll want the pay packets, the prestige if they can get it again.

Both goals were top class. Lovely ball in and perfect header from Hirst for the other one.

Yep, it’s almost funny that Delap put his header wide and it seemed a simpler chance.

I'm completely torn between wanting us to be at the highest level and stick it to all of the pundits talking us down and being perfectly content to return to the best league in the world.

Truly impaired.

The years in the Champ with people moaning and welcoming relgation still baffle me, as Mick said "that went well".

But, as much as I've found the tourism, the going to London more than once, the crap atomspheres etc a real grind it's the lack of perspective being here gives us all. I'm not convinced we will walk the Champ next season.

Ashton will have to earn his corn and show it because we are in a very tricky spot this summer in regards expectations and squad churn.
