Who misses the old North Stand? on 17:28 - Mar 25 by OldFart71 | Do you remember singing " Two black eyes and a broken nose that's how the North Stand aggro goes" |
We’re you in the NS , when they decided to sing dur8mg our game vs Villa, I, I, I, RA, The Ipswich Republican Army They soon shut up when 2k Villa fans tried to storm the “ thin blue line”( police separating the two sets of fans). To get at the Town fans! Probably not the best song to sing so soon after the Birmingham bombings!

Who misses the old North Stand? on 07:39 - Mar 26 with 422 views | Metal_Hacker | The Old North stand was my church every other Saturday as a teen between 12-14 I recall Parents used to have the General Gordon on Cox Lane back then (80 - 82 ish) and I was given a few quid to go down to the game with my mates, unsupervised in the North Stand !!! I soon grew up !! Loved those days and the memories I have will last forever. Good old proper days when the older guys would protect you if there was an inevitable surge - ouch ! The one lasting memory was back in the day when hooliganism was rife and I seem to remember it was Man United or it could have been Arsenal not 100% sure but one of their fans actually getting onto the top of the North Stand through a hole in the roof The away fans next to the home fans was a superb sound TWTFD !!

For me, it was aged 12-18 from 1972 to 1978, and after that each time I came back for home games. I can't remember when the barrier between the fans went up but before that it was a case of a phalanx of police separating fans surging at each other, with rarely any violence actually breaking out inside the ground. Having said that, it could be a bit chaotic with the fans of the London teams, and the only time I was ever punched in the North Stand was by an Ipswich fan who thought I was a Chelsea fan.
