Can someone explain the ins/outs of this... 16:19 - Mar 24 with 827 viewsbluelagos

So the bloke has 0 followers and follows one person - so clearly not a real/genuine poster.

The website is also a fake - it's not a BBC site at all - so sure the story is probably fake too.

This came up on my twitter feed labelled as an Ad.

Who would be behind this and why would come up with cr*p like this for my consumption? Am sure some would get taken in, not understanding it all tbh

Yet you have chosen to post a link to the site, suggesting it is achieving whatever it set out to do, which is probably gather clicks.

It's all aimed at going after the low-hanging fruit.

Given the number of impressions they've probably paid for, all it needs is for 0.1% of those looking at it to be conned into depositing the £250 they'll never see again and they'll make a mint. And that's without taking into account those of their marks who can be conned into parting with even more of their cash.

Probably gathered up address, browser, location data etc, possibly dropped a cookie which will help build the profile of the visitor, as other sites may well build on that cookie through other sites. This can then build a profile if the user, what they like, to further drive internet feeds etc.

So would I be sensible to clean my cookies?

Can I set things up to do this each day anyway?

I think it's just the nature of Twitter these days. The accounts you follow, punctuated with wall-to-wall scams since any semi-decent companies pulled their advertising.
