I personally find it strange that fans want English teams to lose against foreign teams. Does this show how the Country's esteem has gone down as we are no longer a major force militarily or for that matter diplomatically. Or is this just football fans not wanting a rival team winning. I think it's all a bit sad and pathetic really.

It's a tribal thing, we do not want to see rivals do better than us. I rarely favour English clubs in Europe. Though I supported Arsenal the other day as I despise Real Madrid. It probably is sad and pathetic, but it is the way it is for me.

Why?

I find that strange. I would never want nodge to if they ever got there (didn't they once?) And I didn't used to like Man Utd so wasn't fussed whether they did.

Now I don't pay much attention to European football as it is pay to watch and I rarely watch any of it but I do generally want our sides to do well. Especially Villa and Forest as less fancied teams who play decent football.

Why should I want a British club to do well so that they then receive multi millions more in cash and become even stronger if/when we ever play them again.
Plus it also gives their fans another chant to throw at us.

I have to listen to so much crap from plastic Liverpool and Chelsea fans at work as they are have become so deluded by their past success and don't even a know anything about us, despite none of them ever going to a live game.
