Regardless of referee competence and bias, the second yellow VAR problem 17:02 - Apr 26 with 1137 views | redrickstuhaart | is fundamental and needs addressing. Decisions which are just as significant as a penalty or a straight red, are being made with no possibility of being checked properly.. We have several this season, all plainly wrong on a brief viewing of the footage. At least two of them having a fundamental effect on games and points at a crucial time of the season when confiidence and momentum may have made a difference.
Regardless of referee competence and bias, the second yellow VAR problem on 17:03 - Apr 26 with 1104 views | pointofblue | VAR didn't look to send Burn off or disallow the third goal due to a foul. So I doubt Johnson's first yellow would have been changed, even given a chance.

Regardless of referee competence and bias, the second yellow VAR problem on 17:12 - Apr 26 with 1037 views | Smoresy | Soft yellows are given across the country every weekend, in their droves. Affected players then need to adapt accordingly. Johnson didn't. VAR ruminating on yellow cards as well would be terrible for the game.
Regardless of referee competence and bias, the second yellow VAR problem on 17:13 - Apr 26 with 1018 views | Trequartista | That would mean VAR looks at every yellow. That is a layer of hell I hadn't previously contemplated.

But red cards for two yellows is a nonsense when a straight red challenge gets reviewed. The impact on the game is the same. They could and should check both yellows if it becomes a red. Certianly there is no excuse at all for not checking the second yellow.

But the second yellow was a clear yellow. It was utter stupidity from Johnson to do that when already booked.

Wind the game back to the original yellow? Wow. What if the first yellow is for a foul that resulted in a goal for the opposition and you then overturn that yellow because it wasn't a foul. JUST BIN VAR

So what? Why should someone who makes a red card challenge get the benefit of being checked if someone who also gets a red card for lesser offences is not?

You said, " Certianly there is no excuse at all for not checking the second yellow." Well, that wouldn't have made a difference today. He's on a yellow card. Play accordingly. He failed to do so. [Post edited 26 Apr 17:19]

And? Its the system which is wrong. Regardless of the impact it would have on today.
Regardless of referee competence and bias, the second yellow VAR problem on 17:21 - Apr 26 with 904 views | Bluecasp | Let's face it Var is just there to help the big clubs get a decision when there is an opportunity. It stinks just like the Prem League.

I do wonder how much damage there would be to the game if VAR reviewed each card. The game doesn't need to stop - just have a quiet word to ref and, at the next natural stoppage, the card is confirmed or rescinded. To be honest, I think it would be quicker if VAR was just removed altogether.

Indeed. Could easily play on and rescind / add at the next stoppage as necessary. If we must have this awful system destroying the game at all...

How many times do we need games refereed? The Newcastle penalty was a classic case in pint. The ref saw the incident & even though he was giving most decisions to them, decided there wasn't enough contact for a penalty. But the VAR goons decide to make him take another look, for a doubtful decision, which certainly wasn't a "clear & obvious error". This is the biggest problem with VAR - unnecessary interventions over decisions which are by no means clear cut errors.

But if you rescind the card at the next break in play, it will then lead to a debate about the original incident, should we go back for the free kick (currently VAR can’t intervene for free kicks) as the officials are agreeing it wasn’t a dive. I think majority of people want less VAR intervention rather than more, but agree with your general point it just feels wrong when one of the yellows was such a mistake by the officials. Obviously it was hugely frustrating- as was Axel at Villa - but at the very least they need to allow appeals for 2 yellow card dismals. Its just crazy you can appeal straight red but not when two yellows. Retrospectively he wouldn’t get banned nor would have Axel.

I’d be happy if a team took a punt on Johnson over the summer. Just do not see what he does well, always a clanger in him. At his age and experience you got to expect more.

We have the second most reds in the division. 4 of them are double yellows in which at least one of the yellows is highly questionable!
