Clear footage that shows the ball was in play for two seconds before he blew up. 20:27 - May 10 with 2699 viewsDublinBlue84

Check 14:53 onwards here

The ref clearly blows a full two seconds after the corner is taken and then indicates another corner.

It cannot possibly be given as another corner as the ref doesn't blow up for a couple of seconds after the ball has come in, therefore the ball is in play by the time he blows up so it cannot possibly be a retaken corner.

It also cannot be a penalty if the ball is not in play, therefore it cannot go to VAR either if the ball is not in play as VAR cannot intervene unless it is a potential red card offence. The ball does not go out off an Ipswich player, therefore cannot be a corner.

There is no logical way it can end up being another corner based on the above issue and the referee has either made a serious error or does not know the rules of the game. Either way the referee has made a serious error in breach of the rules of the game and the PGMOL should discipline him.

Loser talk IMO mate I’m afraid. Decision’s like that often go against sides, it was a corner that was ordered to be retaken when the ball was in the air (which by the way the Taylor tussling with matey starts before). You see refs bring back dead ball situations all the time with quickly taken free kicks etc if they are not ready, so this is all a reach! How many times have you seen drop ball giving in that situation?!

Anyway, corners awarded against teams when it should be a goal kick or what not all the time. Didn’t defend it, didn’t take our chances late. Frustrating as Brentford were there to be got at as well, not sure why we didn’t give it more of a go, giving the circumstances really.

I was pretty outraged earlier in the season, with the likes of Leicester etc at home. Today, just blah really, I think a lot of if is out of frustration, 8 in a row at home now. I get it, losing sucks and probably stings a lot more in person, we were ok but are understandably just not good enough at this level yet.

Don’t think I’ve have been particularly excited about a 0-0 at home so not going to get all upset one way or another tbh.

I don’t know the letter of the law here, but there is no question in my mind that all these shenanigans play into the hands of the attacking team whoever they are. If both teams are told “you are on your final warning” the next referee action for a foul will be either a free kick to the defending side or a penalty to the attackers - it is completely asymmetric. It is only natural that the defending side will be more cautious than the attackers. In the end it was a couple of mistakes that led to the goal (not tracking Schade, not staying on the post), but it definitely felt like it would not end well…

Anyone would think that this was a decision that changed the course of our season. It was not.

It wasn't even a decision to allow a goal that should not have stood. We conceded that goal. The ref's decision did not make it an inevitability that we would.

We have lost every home league game in 2025. That is not because refs are bad or corrupt. It looks to me as though the ref has made a mistake. That will happen with every referee in every game. Some will have obvious repercussions, some will not. But suggesting someone needs disciplining for making an error is daft. The amount of errors our team has made this season has been substantial. They have tried their best and not been good enough. They do not need disciplining.

Can we please let this go?

My immediate comment was if hes ( ref) ordered a retake why is VAR involed.... the game had not restarted?

I hate VAR

Looking forward to next season already, just get this done please!

This is of course true.
As is the statement that had the referee not incorrectly allowed the corner to be taken 3 times then the goal would not have happened. Both are true.
Had he correctly given the drop ball what would have happened after that no-one knows.
At least yesterday the players didn’t capitulate this time and really pushed towards the end.
I must say though I am looking forward to next season not having VAR sucking the life out of games with their checking of some incidents taking for ever with others barely being checked at all.

No-one forced you to read this thread. If we can't discuss a ref's performance on a football forum you might as well shut it down.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.
