I wonder if an agreement has already been reached with a club.

Hirst will be here next season. Delap has played a lot and everyone knows what he can do.

The only way this would make sense IMO is if he's off to Chelsea and they have paid a small premium for us to manage his minutes so he's fresh for the world club cup.

Truly impaired.

Combo of that and playing an asset that will be here next year. Still getting minutes - just less. Makes perfect sense and surprised even being questioned or discussed

Stupid question, but if he were to pick up an injury that ruled him out until, say, September, surely one of his suitors would still pay the absolute bargain £30m fee anyway?

I appreciate that if it’s Chelsea or, ironically, Man City, they might want him for that club World Cup nonsense, but would it be a deal breaker?

Poll: September 2025. Which one?

It's an interesting point. Normally medical due diligence would make it an absolute no, but if it was key to beating other clubs to his signature...

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

That was my thinking, as well.

Leads me to another two silly questions now.

Would we then keep him and have him for next season?

If so, when does that nonsense £30m, or whatever it is, release clause expire?

Delap , presumable along with Philogene &+Hutchinson, likely to be in England U21 Squad for UEFA U21 finals in Slovakia between 11-28 June.

Accepting he is leaving the sooner things are finalised the better. We will have signings to make this summer and Ashton needs to know for certain how big a pot of cash he has avsilable.

2023 year of destiny
