Squad shape up / transfer targets 13:48 - Jun 16 with 2929 views | IPSWICHFANITFC | GK - Palmer / Muric / Walton / Slicker RB - Tuanzebe (?) / Johnson / H Clarke RCB - O'Shea / Woolfenden LCB - Greaves LB - Davis / Townsend CM - Morsy CM - J Taylor RW - Philogene / Ogbene / Burns C10 - Hutchinson / Chaplin L10 - J Clarke / Szmodics / Broadhead ST - Hirst / Al-Hamadi It feels like an unbalanced squad at present with a few needing to be moved on to create room for a few brought in to get the 2 in each position McKenna likes. The central midfield needs a couple of solid additions. Few thoughts... - Muric or Walton to depart permanently - with Slicker loaned out. - New left footed CB to join to compete with Greaves. Possibly another right footed CB if O'Shea moves on. Could need 2 CB's this window, but definitely be in the market for 1. - Two new CM's of starting 11 quality needed. Biggest priority of the window for me. I like Jason Knight a lot so I hope we are in for him. - Two new strikers/1 striker + 1 versatile attacker. We must get that right this summer. Got away with it before, but can't afford to leave ourselves short again. - I feel like it's a big pre season for Harry Clarke & Jack Taylor. To me, it feels like their progress is stagnating a bit (though I appreciate last season was a massive step up in quality), both probably on the fringes this summer. Broadhead probably gets moved on in a stacked area of the pitch. Question mark over Johnson's role this season too - not sure the trust is there with him defensively but we'll see - has 3 years left on his contract so need to try and get the best from him somewhere. Al Hamadi to move on permanently later on in the window if we sort ourselves out. Humphreys to be given a chance in pre season, but I think he will find himself back out on loan to a Championship side. To round up, a minimum of 6 players needed this summer and 4 or 5 to be moved on or loaned out.

Squad shape up / transfer targets on 13:58 - Jun 16 with 2836 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | It is really hard to do this without knowing who is moving on but as the squad is there man there is some real talent at this level. The defence needs a couple of additions to pad it out but there are some strong options there. The attacking 3 behind the striker is beyond stacked. Maybe will want to add an option on the Right ? Need at least 1 striker to come in probably 2. As you say midfield the key area. Jason Knight is a player. The midfielder I'm keen on is Jonathan Varane from QPR. 6'3, super mobile and really good at breaking up play. Would give us some much needed steel in midfield. 6/7 additions maybe. Squad shape up / transfer targets on 14:21 - Jun 16 with 2757 views | Kieran_Knows | I think we'll be looking at a minimum of 8 in, but more likely 10. Muric, Walton, Slicker, Tuanzebe, O'Shea, Taylor, Broadhead and Al-Hamadi still to leave in my opinion, with a question mark over Morsy. Means we could well need; Keeper x1/2 Right back x1 Centre back x2 Centre mid x3/4 10 - x1 Striker x2 I think the club - and McKenna, if he stays - will want to put a real marker down with our targets/transfers this summer, leaving us in the best possible shape and not much work to do should we get promoted again next season. Squad shape up / transfer targets on 14:22 - Jun 16 with 2737 views | rickw | I'd keep Baggott this season as cover for Greaves, if it really doesn't work out for him when needed I'm sure O'Shea/Woolfie could move across and do a solid job, other than that I agree definitely 2 CM's and 1+ ST needed I think we have too many in the 3 behind the striker so can let 1 or 2 of them go depending on what offers come in

Id be astounded if Baggot is here comes the start of the season. Just played nowhere near enough football to be considered reliable enough should we need to put him in the team.

I don't really see anyone desperately pushing for a move though, whilst there could be a few that feel like their time here is over - Broadhead, Muric, Walton, Tuanzebe to name a few. 2 midfielders and 1 striker would be the statement signings that improve the starting 11. The stronger our core next season, the better position we will find ourselves in to attack the division.

I think Morsy stays and sees his contract out, but I don't think we look to extend his contract beyond that. If another club put a 2+ year deal on the table for him this summer, I'm sure he will consider it - but I'm not sure that offer comes from a Championship side. There might be a couple who have been a part of the journey who want a new challenge and environment and to have a fresh start after a crazy previous 3 seasons. Not many remain from the start of the McKenna era, but it would be understandable.

He's 23 now, not a raw youngster any more. Played 32 league games at league one level in 2 years. If you think that is nowhere near enough football, God help any kid trying to break through from the yoofs. Should be capable enough as left central back cover at Championship level. If not release and replace.

Squad shape up / transfer targets on 11:39 - Jun 17 with 1695 views | itfcsuth | Think from current squad, we will look something like GK: Palmer, Walton RB: H.Clarke, B.Johnson RCB: L.Woolfenden LCB: J.Greaves LB: L.Davis, C.Townsend CDM: S.Morsy, J.Taylor RM: C.Ogbene, W.Burns CAM: C.Chaplin, C.Humphreys LM: S.Szmodics, N.Broadhead ST: G.Hirst Confirmed Outgoings: C.Burgess, M.Luongo, L.Delap, M.Harness Further Outgoings: A.Tuanzebe, D.O'Shea, A.Muric, J.Philogene*, J.Clarke*, O.Hutchinson, A.Al-Hamadi *Unlikely to move both of J.Philogene or J.Clarke, but think one will go, and neither have looked ahead of N.Broadhead or S.Szmodics. Will mean needed: GK: H.Gray (+1 if Walton departs this summer) RCB: +1 LCB: +1 CDM: +2 (possibly 3 if Morsy departs this summer) Versatile CAM: +1 ST: +2 Total - +7 (could be up to 9/10) [Post edited 17 Jun 11:40]

It depends how Hutchinson's release clause terms are set out. If it's an upfront fee like Delap's clause, then someone has to find £35m/£36m which will narrow down the clubs willing to meet those terms. I don't know if they are the terms, but we would be in a very good position if they are. Tuanzebe I'm accepting that he will probably move on at this stage, but it depends what he's after. If it's length of contract (say 3 year deal), then I'm sure we can provide that as he's someone McKenna really likes, but if it's wanting a fresh challenge or to play at the highest level, then we probably won't be the best option.

Everyone raving about Hutch at the U21s, £35m is nothing these days. We have to plan without him. Cajuste in is more important imo.

£35m for a PL side is still a bit of money to splash out on 1 player - not many have done that. Not to forget, if you add in the conditions of how his release clause is to be met, ie, large up front fee, instalments etc, then that can throw a challenge that will put suitors off, especially if there is a large up front fee. I hope he stays but if he doesn't, then the release clause is a good fee.

Squad shape up / transfer targets on 12:24 - Jun 18 with 699 views | LegendofthePhoenix | We need to make a statement signing soon, to show potential new recruits and existing players our level of ambition. We need to start this season with a stronger squad than we started last season in the Prem. I remeber in the demolition squad season, our first signing was Wes Burns - which at the time seemed to get the ball rolling and we brought in some great players , for our level, that summer. For me, there's no point in persisting with Slicker. Just help him find another club. Agree it's a big season for H Clarke and J Taylor. What they've shown so far just isn't good enough for what we need. Broadhead is a good Championship player, but I could see him being one of the ones we need to trade. Goalkeeper worries me. Of teh ones we have I think we keep one only. Muric or Palmer. Muric has so much potential, but if he hasn't bonded with the rest of the players and doesn't talk to them during games, then it should be Palmer we keep. I really hope we have got some foreign targets - UK players are so overpriced, and for the quality we need would be in the £20M region, if we can get overseas players they'd be half that.

Squad shape up / transfer targets on 12:38 - Jun 18 with 656 views | _clive_baker_ | I like doing this. GK - Palmer / Walton RB - Johnson / H Clarke RCB - O'Shea / Woolfenden LCB - Greaves LB - Davis / Townsend CM - Morsy, Humphreys / J Taylor RW - Philogene / Ogbene / Burns C10 - Hutchinson / Chaplin L10 - J Clarke / Szmodics / Broadhead ST - Hirst Added Humprehys in and taken out Al-Hamadi, Tuanzebe, Muric & Slicker who I think all leave in some capacity. Required: 3rd keeper, RB, LCB, CM x 2, #9 x 2. Imagine there will be a bit more change than that with a couple more on that list out (H. Clarke, Broadhead, maybe 1 or 2 of those CM's listed, O'Shea or Davis maybe, potentially Omari). Despite the level of change I expect a few will be on loan deals, and it feels like it calls for evolution rather than revolution. We've got the basis of a very good side.
Squad shape up / transfer targets on 13:13 - Jun 18 with 535 views | Smoresy | O'Shea to stay I reckon, fully committed as the man was a week or two ago. Burgess replacement interests me. Do we target a solid understudy or someone who may give Greaves a serious run for his money? Are we happy with his performance level last season? We spent a good whack so may be reluctant to block his pathway, but we also need his deputy to be a very good Champ performer or else we're left very vulnerable. Burgess was perfect as both cover and stiff competition. [Post edited 18 Jun 13:15]

I feel like we have a problem at RB. Tuanzebe staying resolves it, but if he doesn't, I'm not sure McKenna has 100% trust in Johnson or Clarke defensively. It may sound odd now, but Godfrey returning would be fine with me - but he needs a full pre season here. (If something happened off the pitch that makes it impossible, then it won't happen). The core of the team needs some major investment to it this summer. There's a good enough base to work with already in the squad, but the midfield and 9 roles need quality for this division and currently, we're short of that.

I think AT would be replaced if he goes. If not it might be an opportunity to give Johnson the chance to make the spot his own. He's been a bit of a catch all last season and in some ways his versatility might've gone against him. Maybe we hand him the #2 shirt and say that's yours. At Championship level it would be interesting to see how he did, he's not as good a 1 v 1 defender as Tuanzebe but he's a tidy player. I think back to games against Leicester or Forest away in the cup and he put in some good performances. He won't be up against that level of opposition for the most part either. The spine needs addressing though, especially CM. To my mind we need 2 starters in there, players who make Morsy very droppable. Keep him around for his influence and no doubt he'll have a role to play, but it feels like the time we should be transitioning him out of the side in the final year of his deal. Palmer Johnson O'Shea Greaves Davis ? ? Philogene Hutchinson Clarke Hirst I would be very happy taking the above line up into August if we could manage to keep hold of them. Szmodics, Chaplin, Broadhead, Morsy, Woolfy, Taylor etc on the bench. Burns & Ogbene to come back. Need to strengthen up front of course. We certainly need to add in areas, and will replace any leavers, but we've got the basis of something exciting already.
