David 'Syd' Lawrence RIP 13:06 - Jun 22 with 352 views | gainsboroughblue | Motor neurone disease. Can recall a piece Sky Sports done on him last year before he watched his beloved Gloucs win the T20 blast. Sad news. Sleep well fella.

David 'Syd' Lawrence RIP on 13:28 - Jun 22 with 289 views | Churchman | Age 61. He sounded a terrific bloke. Phil Tufnell said of him “He was a great friend of mine. An intimidating sight but with a warm heart and a great sense of humour. He would fill the room with smiles and laughter and stories." It’s a lovely epitaph. In a relatively short career, cut short by a horrendous knee injury in NZ, he was the last man to dismiss the great Viv Richards in international cricket. I bet he dined out on that one. I actually saw him play against the W Indies. In an age of fearsome fast bowlers, he certainly knew how to make batsmen hop about a bit! RIP Syd.

Courtney Ambrose was one of his great friends. Met both several times over the years watching Glos play and post. He only found out he had MND when going for a routine knee op. Sadly it was very aggressive. RIP

David 'Syd' Lawrence RIP on 14:52 - Jun 22 with 135 views | durhamj | I met Syd on numerous occasions when autograph hunting as a kid. He was always courteous and chatty when Gloucestershire played the festival circuit in Gloucester and Cheltenham where the players just used to wander round and mingle with the crowd, not quite the same nowadays.
