Dentist recommendation. 19:45 - Jun 24 with 509 views | fabian_illness | Couple of front teeth got knocked flat when I was in my teens, A&E doctor yanked them straight but they've always been a problem. I've always been NHS but my dentist won't do the implants I want and sent me down the road to a private place. They've scared me saying I need lots of work and I've already parted with just over £1600 on 2 consultations, a small filling and 4 visits to their hygienist. Now they want £9000 for implants and all the associated work. I'm starting to think I'm being conned. Anyone got a decent recommendation for a private dentist? I know it will cost me and I'm quite prepared to pay but just not sure they are being straight with me. I'm in Hadleigh but dont care where within reason. [Post edited 24 Jun 19:47]

As an dyi, Last year there was an article in the Evening Standard about a couple of guys who had fallen out over a company they owned. It was a financial investment company. Bit of a long story, so I won't bore you with all the details, but one of them had secretly removed the other as a Director because the other had returned to his previous job. Well, he had returned to being a private dentist, because as a private dentist he could earn £400k+ pa, and at the financial investment company he was only earning £200k I was shocked that a private dentist could earn £400k+, but after hearing how much the costs are, I suppose I shouldn't be that shocked.

I was going to post that weirdos in America do this even though there’s nothing wrong with their teeth, but you saved me the trouble . Why did you do it out of interest? I could never under understand why people would do it voluntarily. Did you have issues, was worried about issues in the future or just wanted perfect teeth?

Dentist recommendation. on 20:25 - Jun 24 by Bigalhunter | Reminds me of the old dentist joke. ‘Your teeth are fine but your gums have got to come out’ The thought of Lucan with a set of Rylan/Red Rum gnashers amuses me greatly. [Post edited 24 Jun 20:31]

Dentist recommendation. on 20:36 - Jun 24 by Lord_Lucan | Years of drinking and smoking takes its toll and I had lost one at the front and had a denture. I really couldn't stand the plate so I thought I would have the full monty. One of the best things I have done, really really happy with them. [Post edited 24 Jun 20:37]

Makes sense. It’s silly money in the US and UK, so Turkey sounds like a bargain.

My wife’s a GP and one of her colleagues told me an amusing story recently. A patient with a history of weight issues that were seriously affecting his diabetes management, decided to go to Turkey to have a gastric band fitted about 4 years ago. The NHS waiting list for this procedure was several years and he wasn’t willing to wait. All went well and his weight and diabetes were subsequently under far better control. He presented at the surgery last year with a urine infection and was prescribed with antibiotics. He went back after a couple of weeks as the infection wasn’t responding to them, so my wife’s colleague sent him to hospital for a precautionary scan. The results of the scan stated that all was okay and that it was quite common for patients with only one kidney to find that urinary tract infections took longer to clear up. He’d gone to Turkey with two kidneys….and you can guess the rest. The clinic he’d used was one of those pop-up ones that frequently relocate and change names and he’s so far been unsuccessful in his efforts to trace them..

Dentist recommendation. on 21:36 - Jun 24 with 180 views | Ipswich_Crazy | You could try Berners Dental Practice on 40 Berners St, Ipswich IP1 3LU 01473 258557. Maybe they could be better for you. Not sure they are taking on new NHS patients at the moment, though.
