Has anyone heard or hearing that there are no ST's available?

Two of my Manchester based friends are frequent visitors to PR, and had been using Pat Godbold's staff ST's. They'd been previous ST holders in previous seasons but family commitments meant they had to give them up a few seasons back, but had bern hoping to get new ones for this season. But the Club has told them there are none available. Which I find amazing given there's always some people who don't renew each season, and those who don't want to renew following a relegation.

So are the club potentially hanging onto to relinquished ST's to sell as purely match day tickets, at a much higher face value?

I think ST's were over subscribed last season, so probably taking the opportunity to bring it down to a more sensible level and have more match day tickets available. As you say, with the likely demand for them at £30+ a pop that's more ££ then selling as a season ticket at £20.

It does kind of back up what a Town fan told me last season when we were talking about all things Town. ST's as a topic came up and he told me Americans don't adopt a season ticket approach for sport in their country, and don't actually like the ST concept, preferring instead to have only match day tickets, because they can charge far more for the seat.

So I guess people need to hang on to their ST's for dear life now, because maybe Gamechanger going forward will adopt a match day ticket approach.

Unlikely to be any in my opinion. many don't give up and managing a waiting list is a logistical nightmare for one or two tickets. People I know who aren't going much are keeping their ticket rather than return it and lend it to fiends or sell back to the club on a match by match basis.
The increased seats in Cobbold will most likely be kept for match tickets as the problem with releasing as STs means if we are promoted they need to be relocated somewhere to accommodate additional away fans, and there isn't simply that space.

That isn't the case - its capacity of tickets.

There are definitely none left, some of our group wanted to move seats and the only ones available were two sets in SAR upper and some in restricted view at the top of west stand, that was on the day they made moving available. They were expecting to totally sell out that week.

The ratio of STs to matchday tickets is still high.

That’s completely and utterly false .

Like it or not , there is also what we saw at many Premier league clubs last season.

They actively want tourist fans not season ticket holders as the one off tourist will spend more on merchandise … 19 different fans occupying the same seat buying a scarf and a shirt instead of 1 season ticket holder buying 1 during the season.

The Premier League is where our business model is aimed at

Last season it was a sell out ( or close to) pretty much every game..so from the clubs point of view , more revenue is generated from selling the ticket as a match day one both at a higher cost for the ticket itself and in merchandise and possibly food and drink too.

Also I am sure I read somewhere that the Yanks prefer smaller stadiums and to offer more in the way of a day out experience.
But as we know certain visiting teams have more pulling power than others and also if you are playing a lesser team from up North you may only get a few hundred travel so your ability to get punters in on the off chance are more restricted.
Whereas although the ticket price per game for an ST may be less than what you get for your casual supporter at least the money is in the bank.

I also have a mate who supports the Dallas Cowboys and he owns 4 season tickets or card or whatever they are called in the States and he sells those tickets online for each fixture, the money he makes from those sales enables him to fly over at no extra cost to watch his team play twice each season, which is the obligation season tickets owners have to meet.

Separate to that I am travelling to L.A later this year in a group of 7 and have already purchased 7x tickets for the match against the Colts on one of the ticket sites online … there were dozens if not hundreds of tickets on sale , and while I know the Chargers are not the most popular team , logically from the amount of tickets available for sale , it seems like many season ticket holders in the States do the same.

Would that be more correct?

One thing to consider is that from a financial modelling perspective, analysis shows that ad-hoc match day spend (programs, food, drink) is likely to be higher from season ticket holders than from casual supporters.

The reason is that the majority of ST holders make it a regular social event, so they will congregate with their friends etc in the ground and usually meet earlier - that is the whole strategy behind the fanzone, trying to bring those regular ST holding social groups in from local pubs to the ground.

As for merchandise - for larger items like replica shirts etc it is almost irrelevant whether it is a season ticket holder or casual ticket holder, the fan will generally buy a shirt whether they have a ST, attend one match or 10 matches.

Tourist fans will buy half in half scarves from the man on the street - they deserve public flogging.

Many factors at play depending on sport and the teams involved, but yes you’re more correct than the OP. Example, very hard to get a ticket for Green Bay Packers home games - there’s a waiting list stretching back years and years to get a season ticket. The flip side of that is Packers fans travel in big numbers - often to escape the miserable Wisconsin winter - and fill up large sections of home stadiums where the support is not as good.
