Why didn’t the club offer Morsy a two year deal? 22:13 - Jul 24 with 3033 viewsringwoodblue

Considering how much Morsy has contributed to the club, how much he could still contribute this season and next and how much he is loved by the fans, why couldn’t the club offer him a two-year deal to keep him?

We are happy to offer a 40 yr old a one year deal but not a 35 yr old a two year deal. It all seems very strange to me and I think it will come back to bite us.

Poor in the Premier League ? The whole team was outgunned, not just Morsy. In fact, I'd struggle to name 5 of our squad who were better than Samy last season. O'Shea, Cajuste, Delap........who else?

The fact that others were poor doesn't make up for Morsy being poor. You could argue that our inability to dominate the centre of the park had an effect on all other players. Forwards dropping deeper, defenders and keeper under more pressure. We didn't have a functioning midfield last term, we have to build a new one. I expect there was no greater critic than Morsy himself, he could have stayed and seen his contract out, he didn't

OK... so why does Morsy have to cop it all... and Cajuste gets a free pass? Many are desperate to have Cajuste back, but I thought he was a show-pony ( 1 goal, 1 assist) who didn't offer Morsy much help.Philips also being a waste of space didn't help.
Morsy couldn't do it all alone.

I thought Morsy was the best of our woeful midfield. He at least got involved, was available, battled. Phillips never showed up at all and Cajuste looked classy running with the ball - but there was no end product and he rarely did it anyway.

A consolation goal and I thought zero assists so I might be doing the bloke down, but either way Sam was the best of a sorry midfield. But I still think a one year contract given his declining powers was about right.

Anyway, I’m guessing he’s got a spiffing contract in Kuwait and good luck to him. Sam did us proud and we gave him an ending to a career to be remembered too. All good.

It isn't about Morsy taking the flack. Phillips was a failure, Cajuste couldn't last 90 minutes and Taylor was the wrong sort of player. We have to build a whole new midfield and we need a new captain. Someone who is playing week in and out. Morsy turns 34 this season, he is the past and not the future. We have to build a new partnership now, not back in the top flight. Sam has been a great leader and servant but he was way off the pace last season and struggled to pick out forward passes. He just couldn't influence the centre of the park in the top flight as he had done in league 1 and the championship. He will know that as much as anyone else and he decided to move on with 1 year left on his contract. It was admirable that he didn't want to hang about as club captain limited to a bit part player. He has bowed out at the perfect time
