Will we see Jack Clarke with Young behind against Charlton? 16:15 - Jul 27 with 1179 viewsunstableblue

That is the question.

With McKenna saying he’s looking at Philogene as a left winger. And our England U21 star putting in a MOTM performance against Aberdeen.

Then Jack Clarke, who was the second best player at Pittodrie, must be tried again in the right attacking midfield role. But with Young behind him as more a defensive full back. Improving our solidity over Johnson.

I did like what Ogbene did as a sub. But Clarke looks the mustard at present.

As someone who watched a lot of Premier League football between 2002 and ~2014, and then not much until last season, hearing Ashley Young being described and a defensively minded full back takes some time for me to get my head around.

Don't really see Young being more defensive then Johnson. Even at 40 he will be looking to get forward and support and put good delivery in.

I imagine we will have most of the 11 that finished against Aberdeen getting their 60 with maybe 1-2 changes. Would think Ogbene will start on the right.

Be interesting to see who we start in the CM. Not sure it will be Clarke again from the start.

He’s a lot more solid and has much better positioning than Johnson & Clarke though. Very different sort of a full back and I am sure he will swing the odd cross in from deep.

If it's not Hutchinson, then most likely.

I think if OH is sold, McKenna will bring in another winger.

A few question marks over Ogbene coming back from a serious injury. Rak-Sakyi was suggested a few posters which is a good shout. Wouldn't be against someone like Morgan Whittaker who can go past players and play that inverted role well.

If Omari is going I'd prefer a new more central no10, Ogbene,Clarke,Burns and even Young could operate on the right wing if needed

How about a striker cum wide attacker?

Delap was playing wide right for Hull before becoming a 9. Daryll Murphy was a left winger before becoming a 9. It would seriously help us out big time bringing in someone who can play both wide and as a 9.

It would also offer more potential game time if we've got a first and second choice 9 at the club. You're not going to get much game time as third choice.

From last season

I think my point was that Young would be more deployed a deeper full back, rather than his strength is as an orthodox full back (but he will better than Johnson, without doubt)

But the stats show Young perhaps being relatively deep last season with some good defensive stats, although some concern on losing 1 on 1s.

What is promising is balls up the wing… Clarke or whoever plays there will love that
