Donostia-San Sebastian 22:04 - Aug 5 with 1094 views | Swansea_Blue | If northern Spain has never been on your radar, do yourself favour and try a trip to San Sebastián. You won’t regret it. It’s a gorgeous place. Maybe take in a Real Sociedad game while you’re here. That’s all.

Yep. It’s stunning. You can’t go wrong. Every 10 yards there’s a place that people would be going nuts over back home.

I can hugely recommend this restaurant. The tasting menu is incredible value compared to similar in the UK. The wine pairing is 21 Euros and would be £70 in an equivalent restaurant in Britain. https://www.bodegonalejandro.com/en/tasting-menu/#tasting-menu One of my favourites meals ever. It was Michelin Recommended at the time, one down from starred, but the starred places there are more expensive than London. Edit: it is still Michelin Recommended. [Post edited 5 Aug 22:40]

Looks great. Unfortunately we’re moving on tomorrow, but it’s definitely somewhere I’m coming back to for a longer stop.

The local Txakoli wine poured from great height in the pintxos bars is fun, isn't it? Beautiful beaches/bays, too.

Yeah, good fun. We did a mini pintxos tour tonight and got a bar seat a couple of time. It’s great fun. Not as busy as we’d been lead to believe, although we still had a 20-30 minute wait at one popular place. It was well worth it though. They don’t mess about. We had a salt and pepper calamari dish and it was none of this generic, breaded rings stuff. It was full on octopus suckers with tentacles. Nice though lol. Highly recommend. Good food and drink. A gorgeous sandy bay. Good trips around too. We’re off to the Picos de Europa tomorrow for a week’s walking holiday. It’s going to kill me lol. My fitness has fallen off a cliff.

Oooh, proper jealous! Potes as a base? Listen out for the motorbikes - some awesome roads round there - and the old bill literally non existent out of towns. I did a run back to Potes (to catch a Town game) and wasn't hanging around - got passed by some locals doing probably twice the speed limit - seriously quick - but clearly knew every inch of the road too. The Spanish love bikes - cars do all they can for you to help - some contrast to most of Europe (including UK) Enjoy :-)

We’re spending a few nights in each of Espinama, Sotres and Arenas. I’m not sure where they are in relation to Potes. But once we’ve finished with the walking we’ve got a hire car for a week to tour the north cost. I’ll keep my eyes open for nutters on bikes!

Donostia-San Sebastian on 00:02 - Aug 6 with 570 views | Guthrum | Went there last October. Absolutely lovely place, even in the autumn, stunning beach in the bay. Bilbao less so, not helped by filthy weather and getting Covid. Tho the Athletic ground is quite spectacular, especially on matchday (we didn't actually go inside). Airport was convenient, however.

Second this. Whole region is full of amazing scenery and great food. Fuente De cable car was great for a quick trip to the top of Picos De Europa and Potes a little town nearby offered a glimpse into traditional northern Spanish life.

So the cable car at Fuente De - is basically the end of a road from Potes - and Espinama is one of the last villages on route. If you are getting to Espinana by road - you'll come through Potes (some nice restuarants for sure) - if by foot - unlikely.
