72% possession 2 shots on target 23:37 - Aug 23 with 303 viewstractorshark

Tells its own story, really. We lack that cutting edge and it's glaringly obvious we need another striker to compete with Hirst.
Hirst is a decent player but he's never been prolific.
The service to him wasn't great but his first touch was shocking today.
We didn't play badly and Preston were not in our league quality wise.
But you can have all the possession you like, the only stat that matters is the scoreline.
The one thing today did highlight was two years ago we were able to play counter-attacking football. That's not going to happen this season. Teams will sit back and defend.

Szmodics - Chaplin - McAteer

That be all, that’s the fit.

Broadhead and Chaplin scored what 30 odd goals between them when Hirst led the line last time. If we are going to play with one striker and true wingers, then a big week is the market is needed. I think szmodics could have a hell of the season as an inside left 10 but it’s not happening with Philogene on the pitch.

Poll: What was Connor Chaplin’s best injury time celebration?

I do agree with this. Szmodics & Akpom will both be a better fit out there IMO.

Philogene & Clarke are not only struggling to be effective in the inside left position but they are also restricting Davis' ability to be effective.

I still think both Clarke & Philogene have a role to play but I don't think we have the time to feel this one out in the hope that this might suddenly click.

Yep don’t win games by possession - forest proved that last year (as did Russell Martin at the other end of the spectrum). We’ve lost all the nous we learned in League One breaking down stubborn defences and looking completely timid.
