Season's and club fortunes turn on moments.... 12:58 - Aug 24 with 587 viewsunstableblue

.. I think Jack Clarke's sublime cross midway through first half, a cross that was good enough to get round the defender and reach Hirst.. and Hirst just lets himself get put off, follows the man not the ball. Any real contact and it's in.

I think we go on and win the game. Preston would have tried to come out more rather than the low block, which they were excellent at (by the way they were far more attacking in their stats in the home win against Leicester, we kept them to nothing after the pen).

The moment goes our way and Hirst is off the mark, and the fans are waxing lyrical about Clarke rather than bemoaning him. He was improving at that point in the game after a weak start. The players get to connect positively with the large away end.

And now the fan base are turning, there's huge pressure for a win against Derby ahead of the international break. And McKenna and a whole heap of players are being questioned.

On moment's like that season's and managerial careers turn. Because confidence is king. And our players, just need some belief.

Everyone has got to hold their nerve, we need to bring Akpom, Young and Cajuste into the first 11, get the patterns between Leif, Philogene, and Young/Clarke/McAteer. Just get a goal, then get a win.

Yeah absolutely

You make your own luck and fortunes.. there was Szmodics ball into Hirst, two Johnson shots, a Greaves stab… etc but all really half chances at best

But if the Gods smile on you, like the Hirst chance I mentioned earlier - seasons can be transformed

We are multiplying our lack of confidence and disconnect from fan base with each lack of a win and true performance

You can see how a Luton happens, or indeed a Sheff United this season.

Just need things to go right Saturday.

Ironically I think in that position with no time to think AAH scores that chance!

Yeah you may be right

I think because Hirst was so isolated and was getting really physical marking and contact his head dropped a bit.

Like the Szmodics shorter cross where he allows himself to be tackled and tracked

A fully firing Hirst just gets a yard ahead and sneaks that one in.

I do think that a lot of people are over thinking where Town are… going too early on doom and gloom. We’re a work progress probably not ready till after international break, who frankly just need a bit of luck and a break to turn the confidence.

We didn’t really deserve the win at Sunderland on the opening day of the Champ promotion, but we had confidence in our veins so took the chances and rode the luck that meant they didn’t take some very good chances.

Yes, but for the Sunderland game on opening day we attacked them at the SOL with an inferior squad with a no fear attitude. Today, we have an allegedly “superior” squad worth many multiples but none of the gung ho attacking nous. Instead, just like last season we are content to pass backwards and sideways in our own half aimlessly. The way we are playing now, obviously chances will be few and far between. Coupled with poor finishing and lack of a proper striker sans Hirst it’s no wonder we are where we are on the table now
