Appreciation for Azor Matusiwa 09:33 - Aug 25 with 1492 viewsPioneerBlue

Amongst all the negativity and OTT outpouring over a poor result at Preston we are missing the good in the players we have now acquired.

Step forward Azor Matusiwa (Mat-oo-see-warr).

I’m sure others have got data to support this but on visual only he’s got better and better.

He’s got an engine, he makes tackles and breaks things up. He’s got an eye for a pass through lines. He’s around the pitch making himself available for the ball.

I’m sure it’s not all been perfect and there is more to come, but great start with big shoes to fill.

He will be a fans favourite before long.

Early days but promising.

I'm looking forward to seeing how he links up with Cajuste, when he's ready to start a game.

He looked v good at Preston and will hopefully be even better with Cajuste/new signing in the team as well.

My only very slight criticism is that he doesn’t pick the ball up in advanced areas like Morsy did but overall he’s a good signing in my opinion.

Both Hladky and Morsy put our side on the next level when playing out from the back, every side seem to play this way now, or try too, the calming influence it had on the team coupled with keeping possession and playing through the oppo is something I knew we'd miss and we just don't look the same side, we're finding another way but for me that has put us back in the pack with the other sides in this league to where we were the last time we were here..

Looks a top player and capable of developing with us.

Shame we didn’t sign him last summer really!

Improving defensively week on week thats for sure.

Needs to make himself available more when the defence have the ball, interestingly he seems to do more of this in the second half of games. He certainly did v Southampton and Preston, so perhaps its a confidence thing at the minute.

I'm pretty sure in his Youtube vids I saw him driving with the ball a little more but as you have stated it's early days.

What would help him is to have someone along side him who is ready made and who will be a starter for the season but no such luck.

Positive signs.

Great signing so far..... Still think we need another Matusiwa type in the building as back up. Atm, looks like he's the only ball winner type in that position, in the squad..
Imo, all three in Taylor, Cajuste and even Humphry's, all play their best football, slightly further up the pitch in more creative roles. And not as "wrecking balls" in front of back four.

He's very promising and will get better.

Folk should stop comparing him to Morsy though - he doesn't play the same, and is unlikely to become the player to pass the ball out to from the goalkeeper under pressure.

Feels like a more progressive passer than Morsy though.
