Its just the attitude of the player. Maybe there are promises broken that we don't know about. Who knows.
However someone like Harry Kane, that seems like a decent chap did not refuse to play when apparently he was made promises. Did he end up signing a new contract but with a release clause and he ended up playing one more year then went to Bayern.
Some players just have sh!tty attitudes I think, and if they think it'll work then they do it.
